And it’s Little Deer, trying to calm down Sparrow after she wakes up in the hospital or something. Idk. He’s got straight black hair that is cut short to make it easier to manage and yeah. He’s got some scars and freckles and acne.

She has a fishing hook shoved through her right ear as an earring.

She also has a black dot tattooed onto the lobe of her left ear. It was done by her mother since her mother, Le, was born in the Sun Desert (and then moved to the Southern Coast of the Warring Lands) and in the Solar culture being born when there is a cloud (or clouds but at the time it was rare for even one) in the sky marks the person as drawn to magic and destined to be strong in it. Lell definitely ended up living up to the superstition.

Well, I would post the ghost story Lell is the source of... but I don’t have it written. (Which this obviously means I should write it.... we’ll see if my brain can brain words for that. It might take a bit, but I’ll be sure to tag you when I do post it.)

And Fishspeak is a popular language with sailors but it’s not technically just a dialect. Well, it is a dialect. Riverport Fishspeak is what I call fishspeak in the story because in BtS and SC the only ones who speak fishspeak are from Riverpor slash speak the Riverport Dialect of it.  Technically, fishspeak is somewhere between a pidgin and a creole that was created out of the various languages that exist around the central sea and the people who work the waters and the docks.

It’s heavily influenced by Trader, Northern, and Imperial but it also has a lot of words brought in from the smaller languages that are only spoken in small population groups. So, like, based on which coast you’re on (or island) you’ll find a different dialect of Fishspeak. And the different dialects of Fishspeak are actually more intelligible to each other than they are to the main language of the area because Trader is the dominant language force in Fishspeak.

So yeah. Fishspeak. It’s its own language.
