This is the first time I've drawn Sun Kingdom characters in pencil crayon, and it was tricky to choose what each person's signature colour should be, since they all wear the same colours! I went for yellow/orange for Dignity and green for Nobility.

If you don't know these two, they're sister princesses, but there's a 10 year age gap between them. Nobility seems at first like the more hinged sister, but she's just weird in a different way. (She also said 'when I was your age' as a teenager. On all levels except physical, she is an old lady)

I request the stupidest things about your oc’s

Sorry this took so long! There was so much for me to consider...

1. Titania wears her own merchandise (here she is in a hoodie based off her superhero costume)

2. Esther chose to replace her own (perfectly functional) hands with robotic versions of her own invention just for the sake of science

(Her daughters made her those mugs)

3. I named Penelope Farthing for the purpose of ‘Penny Farthing’ bicycle jokes. She does not like said jokes, or her name.

4. Meredith decided that the best idea for her grandchild’s first trip in her time machine was taking them to watch the Earth being swallowed up by the sun.

5. Annika and Pedro make a bet over the sex of their baby, and then have boy/girl twins, so nobody actually wins. Or everybody does.

6. After becoming Sun Queen, Dignity made sleeveless dresses a trend specifically so she could show off her buff arms.

Anyway, I could go on, but I think that’s enough for now.

Epic prank on your mom, who really should remember that you’re blind.

Dignity is commenting on Victory’s hair not just because she’s judgemental (she is) but because in the Sun Kingdom, especially if you’re upper class, you wear your hair up during the day. Victory is kind of doing the equivalent of walking in in her pyjamas.

Dignity has to make everything she does into a competition. How do you know you’re succeeding if you’re not making someone else look bad?

Arcturus enjoys dancing more for its artistic merit, but he cares just as much about executing it flawlessly, so they make good partners.

Valour is absorbing his mother’s philosophy that life is about being better than other people. Victory just wants to keep her dad to herself a little longer.

The bad influence is coming from inside the house!

Bragging about each other to anyone who’ll listen is the main way Dignity and Valour express affection. Dignity was constantly seeking praise as a child (which she did not get), and Valour is following her lead. Arcturus is wondering yet again what the fuck he married into.

So I made this with two purposes: introducing the concept of magic withdrawal, and exploring some family dynamics.

Sun magic comes, as you might expect, from the sun, and it lets you manipulate light and heat. You can use as much as you want during the day, but at night you’re limited because you can’t ‘recharge’ until the sun comes back up. Arcturus, not being magical himself, wasn’t aware of this.

In case anyone can’t tell from the colours, the last two panels of page 4 and the first two panels of page 5 are Dignity’s flashback to her own childhood. The shadowy people are her mother, Sun Queen Majesty, and her nursemaid, Patience.

I can’t remember exactly how many suns I drew making this, but including all the partial ones it was well over a hundred :))))

Another comic with these guys. This time, it’s story time for the children, and Valour interrupts the story to destroy it with Facts and Logic. It was my sister who suggested to me that Arcturus probably chose that story to make Victory feel better about her own potential, which would explain why he’s so bothered that Valour is picking it apart.

This one takes place a few years earlier than the sun withdrawal comic. It also took much less time to draw.
