I said I'd show the moment Gorm started to let humans get close again. Here we are!
When Gorm realized that he was getting attached to Green he instantly wanted to distance himself from them, afraid of being hurt again. Thus he started to ignore and avoid them. With Green not understanding a thing, leading to them luring Gorm into picking them up so they could confront him.
It may have happened hundreds of years ago. But time is relative to Gorm and it may as well have happened a few months ago. For all he knows, the captain and crew are still out there.
If it's not clear; Gorm's catching Green with his nose so they don't fall. Green's a lil clumsy. But hey it worked in their favor! xD
What if someone used one of Gorm’s tentacles as a weighted blanket? Give him a nice hug while being comfy
Ah it wouldn't last since his arms aren't still for very long. They're always investigating and prodding things in search of something interesting. The person would have to inform Gorm of their plans first so he can assign an arm the task of staying put.
What convinces Gorm to make friends with humans again? And would he ever trust himself to hold humans with his hands again?
I've been thinking of making the answer to your first question into a comic for a while now. This is the sign for me to do it. So sit tight, it'll be done! :)
And as he befriends humans again, he'll be eased into holding them with his hands yes! Because they'd definitely pick up on that worry of his. So they'd gently try and get him used to handling them with his hands.
So gently. xD
But over time he will be more confident as he learns the do/don't dos of handling his little friends. :)
What if the human friends of Gorm take pictures of their faces (Since Gorm can’t make out faces if such small things) and put on a big screen so he can actually see what they look like?
Personality: Curious and eager, he's an extremely inquisitive creature and once something has caught his attention he's very persistent until his curiosity is satiated. He's overall friendly and happy.
Background: Gorm has been around for a very, very long time. Spending most of his time in the depths of the ocean. Every now and then, he's been drawn to the surface; whenever something caught his attention. During the age of sail when human were really starting to navigate the seas, he was once again called to the surface.
Much to the horror of the humans.
He ended up, unintentionally, destroying ships, scaring even more sailors, before learning to be more gentle in his approach.
After a while he befriended a trading ship, following them around. The crew of the ship, the captain mainly, only thought to use him for safe travels however (though the captain did come to care for "the beast"). It didn't end well.
After the captain cut ties with Gorm, he was upset because he didn't understand why. So he withdrew back into the depths again. Until a benthic rover called his attention back to the surface again.
Gorm is once again causing headaches for humans.
Other notes:
His "hair" and "eyelashes" are made of tissue.
He has no vocalization organs and instead communicates through bioluminescence. Blue indicating positive emotions while the greens are more negative. The bioluminescence communicates both his mood and thoughts in complex patterns. If he's hunting, or stunned into silence, he can go completely dark.
His arms can operate independently and he doesn't always pay attention to them. His arms can explore/do things on their own while his main focus is elsewhere. The suckers are able to taste things via touch, a "touch-taste" sense. The arms are extremely flexible.
He's got a lot of scars, a price for his curiosity. A little pain doesn't deter him from poking at things.
Here's an imagie of his design without the bioluminescence
