OC LAYERS tag game

I was tagged by @casa-dei-corvei to play this awesome new tag game. It's a lot to think about and works very well for more insight of my baby's personality. I put in her 15yo self and the VG version of 32/33 years since many answers reach back into the past so it makes sense to show her tiny version off once again. The original post had beautiful gradient titles and I wish I could have just copied all of them (or replicate them, but I have no idea how you guys do those) but some of them refused to cooperate. Ignore that lack of consistency and enjoy the beautiful colors that I could copy and paste.

LAYER ONE: THE OUTSIDE

Name: Caramella "Cara" de Riva

Eye Color: Light green

Hair Style/Color: Fire Red. Very voluminous and curly when grown out. There's a story why her hair suddenly went short when she was 15, her usual style is waist long and open (in battle she'd probably bun or braid up because she's pragmatic - but for the common battle glam shot OF COURSE it stays open for the drama™

Height: 1,65m

Clothing Style: On the job: leathers in various styles, often dark with red details, sometimes she goes for the Crow typical purple theme. Depending on where she travels for the contract, she'll choose lighter or warmer leathers, she prefers to go without sleeves but the want of showing her tattoos off goes only so far with her ability to stand (or better not stand) cold climate. Casual times: Harem pants, light and voluminous pantaloons, snug vests or tops. Leather boots at least kneehigh with buckles and clasps. At home (and the lighthouse) she'll probably walk barefoot more often than wearing shoes.

Best Physical Feature(s): Her eyes, her hair, her muscular arms and legs

LAYER TWO: THE INSIDE

Fears: Being not "enough", never figuring out what is "wrong" with her regarding he sexual preferences, not actual fear but she's not a big fan of the creepy crawlies, esp. bugs.

Guilty Pleasure: romance novels and baklava

Biggest Pet Peeve: overboarding bureaucracy

Ambition for the Future: She pretty much shares Teia's ideas/approaches to how the Crows should be and operate in the future.

LAYER THREE: THOUGHTS

First Thoughts Waking Up: 5 more minutes...

What They Think About the Most: On a contract: The contract During off times: The Crows, her place in this world, her brother (Viago), her friends, her team. Lucanis (and Spite).

What They Think About Before Bed: She's a little of an insomniac so basically: please please please... just a few hours of sleep

What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Her ability to adapt quickly to whatever adversity is thrown at her. Quick reflexes in body and mind make her incredible hard to kill.

LAYER FOUR: WHAT’S BETTER?

Single or Group Dates: Single dates. She's easily overwhelmed with groups in social settings so she prefers to go one on one and probably somewhere where it's calm enough to actually talk to each other.

To be Loved or Respected: She demands being respected in her professional roles but within her social circles she wants both. Also she believes that a romantic relationship is not possible without one or the other.

Beauty or Brains: She knows that she's a stunner and that she's not a simpleton so she calls herself lucky that she was blessed with both.

Dogs or Cats: She's a certified crazy cat lady! And funny enough, cats are drawn to her, too. Even the most feral cats usually are at least peaceful towards her, if not actively seeking out her company.

LAYER FIVE: DO YOU?

Lie: Professionally of course. It's part of the job and probably also a mechanism of survival during training years. Breaking the rules and not being caught is one of the few ways for young crows to have at least a little time off. Also as a negotiator, the truth often is a VERY flexible construct. In her personal relationships: She won't be blunt if the truth would hurt the person. Instead she would find a comforting way to deliver the truth, but not lie.

Believe in Yourself: As a Crow: Yes to 100%. She's proud of what she can do and that she's good at her job. She likes being a Crow and does not intend of giving that up. In her personal life: There are doubts. Especially when she was younger and tried to impress Viago who is her hero ever since.

Believe in Love: She does believe in romantic love as she reads it in her favorite novels. But for a long time she thinks it's just not for HER specifically. She has crushes all her life but more than a few kisses don't happen. Her very first crush is Lucanis and so when all the VG slowburn stages happen, for her it's just all things slowly falling into place.

Want Someone: Lucanis, probably since the sweet age of 15 summers

LAYER SIX: HAVE YOU EVER?

Been on Stage: Sometimes acting is part of getting close to a target but that sort of acting rarely happens on a stage.

Done Drugs: Occasional elfroot smoker

Changed Who You Were to Fit In: There is a clear distinction between Cara the professional and Cara the private person. It's intentional and she wants to have it exactly this way. If people she has to deal with professionally whould know the level of awkwards, dork and nerd she is, no one would take her serious ever again.

LAYER SEVEN: WHAT’S THEIR…

Favourite colours: Black, and all dark reds, purples, greens and teals.

Favourite animal: Cats and the trained ravens that the Crows keep for messenger and carrier purposes

Favourite book: She loves romance novels and prefers them full of adventure and with a strong independent heroine she can identify with.

Favourite game: She likes solving puzzles, especially those who involve language/words and logic. Her ability of reading people makes her lethal in card games such as wicked grace and poker.

LAYER EIGHT: AGE

DOB: 9:20 Dragon (me, the creator and writer has not the slightest idea what day. Probably a summer child. Born most likely under whatever zodiac in Thedas corresponds with what is Cancer in ours)

How Old Will You Be: (as of 9:53 Dragon) 33

Does Age Matter: Crows age different. Everything happens faster (responsibilities, trauma, probably death - there are so many rules for everything and then again seemingly none at all) - so does age matter? Probably not.

LAYER NINE: FINISH THE SENTENCE

I love: being a Crow, my brother and more than everyone else I love Lucanis.

I feel: all over the place as soon as I'm out of my professional role.

I hide: that I'm all over the place when I'm out of my professional role

I miss: sleep

I wish: I could always protect (save) the people I care for.

Thanks @etherealancientmusings! Appreciate the tag because I'll take any chance to talk about my fave OC. And boy did I indulge, gotta give my Saethre some love for all the shit she's been through.

These answers are post-Veilguard - somewhere, sometime in the Fade...

Layer One - The Outside

Name: Saethre Lavellan

Eye Colour: Bright blue grey with flecks of fuchsia

Hair Style/Colour: Long, thick, black hair

Height: 5'4

Clothing Style: Her preference is fitted corset like tops with leggings, paired with long, comfortable sweaters or robes when relaxing - barefoot.

Best Physical Feature: Her eyes - she's known for her stare downs. Want to know what she's feeling? Look to her eyes.

Layer Two - The Inside

Fears: Irrationality. Loss of her mind. Apathy. That the Veil is taking more from Solas than he lets on, that the Fade will take more from her than she thinks.

Guilty Pleasure: Peeking into the dreams of others in the Fade.

Biggest Pet Peeve: Ignorance. In her view, it’s born from arrogance and an unwillingness to learn - a pairing she finds intolerable.

Ambition for the Future: Truthfully, her goal is to find a way to remove the Veil without harming Thedas. Over the years she came to appreciate, understand, and love spirits - and now holds her own hopes for them to exist in their natural state, once more connected to the physical world. She dislikes that the Veil is tied to Solas’ life force, though she understands he sees it as necessary penance for all that he’s done. Together, they’re working to find a better path.

Layer Three - Thoughts

First Thoughts Waking Up: Is she still of sound mind and body? What has changed in the Fade today? What regrets or pain will reveal themselves in the Fade that she hasn't yet dealt with? That Solas hasn't?

What They Think About the Most: Her time in the Inquisition, especially arriving to Skyhold. She thinks of the team she had, the camaraderie and collaboration and connection - and sits in gratitude with it all - wonders at all they were able to accomplish. She thinks of them often, how they fare, thinks lovingly of them. She wonders how much time has gone by in Thedas. How much blight is there still to go? If the Veil can be removed safely - how and when.

What They Think About Before Bed: In the Fade, sleep isn’t really necessary. When she does feel tired, her thoughts usually drift to purpose. What would she even dream about while already in the Fade? Knowing her dreams shape what's around her now, she’s careful, intentional. That said, most of the time, if she’s in bed, it’s because she and Solas were eyeing each other hungrily a moment earlier.

What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Resilience. Endurance. Perspective. She would not be who is today without those things.

Layer Four - What's Better?

Single or Group Dates: Single. Group dates with spirits are highly unpredictable.

To be Love or Respected: Depends on the audience. She could care less what strangers think of her. Those she cares for? She hopes both - but only by being a woman worthy of it in her opinion.

Beauty or Brains: Intellect is sexy. Beauty without brains isn't sustainable.

Dogs or Cats: Both - dogs protect you in the physical world. Cats protect you in the world beyond.

Layer Five - Do You?

Lie: She has. It’s sometimes necessary as a leader - especially when the South was falling apart and her fears threatened to take over. The brave face, the steady voice, the faith in front of others - those were some of her hardest, but most essential lies. And once, lying to herself to protect her own heart, that she no longer loved Solas. But now, in the Fade, there’s no need for lies. The Fade reveals all.

Believe in Yourself: Yes. It's a byproduct of resiliency, you keep going because you know you can. She's walked the din'anshiral and survived it after all.

Believe in Love: When she was younger due to tragic circumstances, not so much. But now that love carried her back into the arms of the man she loves? That somehow, collectively, care, love and understanding found a way to get through to him in the end? Yes, though she certainly had moments of doubt through the years leading up.

Want Someone: No longer. She has him and he has her.

Layer Six - Have You Ever?

Been on Stage: The stage of public opinion. She's had many stones thrown at her. Some stones hurt more than others but she's grown thick skin.

Done Drugs: Yes, in her youth, some experimentation from time to time.

Changed Who You Were to Fit In: Not to fit in. Any changes she made were about learning from her mistakes and pain she caused herself or others. So change yes - to become a better person, a better friend, leader - to be able to look at herself in the mirror and find acceptance - but never change for the sake of fitting in.

Layer Seven - What's Their...

Favorite Colours: The hues of a sunset.

Favorite Book: The Tale of Iloren - "written by Zathrian, as it has been passed down from keeper to keeper from generations."

Favorite Animal: Owls. She's always loved how ethereal, wise and knowing they appear. They hold spiritual symbolism for her.

Favorite Game: Find the items the wisps hide on her.

Layer Eight - Age

DOB: 21 Cloudreach, 9:13 Dragon

How Old Will You Be: Now? She's ageless in the Fade. But she was 39 years old when she entered it.

Age You Lost Your Virginity: 19, to the young Dalish man from another clan she fell in love with (until his untimely death).

Does Age Matter: Between adults, no. And yes, she’s well aware Solas has a few centuries on her. But he doesn’t actually age… and now, technically, neither does she.

Layer Nine - Finish The Sentence

I love: Discovering new dreams in the Fade, playing with wisps, talking to spirits and the moments of heat, pleasure and peace in Solas' arms.

I feel: Hopeful. Curious. Free. At times, guilt still sneaks in.

I hide: Doubt. Worry.

I miss: Trees, forests and rivers. Cassandra, Varric, Dorian and Blackwall the most. Cole finds a way to connect from time to time and then the missing is somehow lessened.

I wish: She doesn't, she learned that actions bring forth hopes and desires, not wishes. She hopes and plans, but stopped wishing a long time ago.

OC Layers

Thanks @loredrinker for the tag! This one was fun and really made me think. I apologize in advance because some of it gets a little sad.

These answers are post Veilguard and in mind with the fact that Juno’s little brother is Rook and that prior to Trespasser, Varric introduced Juno to Merrill and they became close friends.

Layer One - The Outside

Name: Juno Lavellan

Eye Colour: Emerald Green

Hairstyle: Thick, red hair. Her hairstyle varied throughout the years. In her twenties, she kept one or both sides of her head shaved.

Height: 5’10

Clothing Style: Her style mostly consists of loose fitting dresses and sweaters. She wears a combination of leggings, shorts, short under shirt (like a tube top or tank top) underneath. She prefers to wear sandals or foot wraps. She will only wear ‘human’ shoes if she absolutely has to.

Best Physical Feature: Juno is not a very vain person but she is very particular about her hair. She is very meticulous when it comes to maintaining her hair. She struggled at first when she lost her left hand but she was persistent and crafty enough to figure out new techniques to take care and style her hair.

Layer Two - The Inside

Fears: Juno has many. Indifference. Apathy. Dying alone. To be forgotten; that who she is will be rewritten through history much like the Inquisitor before her, Ameridan. She fears that maintaining the veil will be too much for Solas and it would ultimately kill him. Which leads to one of her irrational fears (to her) that Solas will leave her again. Whether it be death or something else.

Guilty Pleasure: Gossip. Which makes her hypocritical because she hates when people gossip about her (if she hears about it). It surprised her at first how much spirits like to talk.

Biggest Pet Peeve: It is a tie between stubbornness and ignorance. (Arrogance is another one too.) The unwillingness to question, learn and challenge one’s mindset really bothers her. She wonders if people are willing to live in the dark so that they don’t have to challenge the status quo.

Ambitions for the Future: In the near future? After the Blight is soothed? She has too many to name. Like for example, making their way out of the prison and into the general Fade. They have a lot to work through. Both individually and as a couple. She doesn’t see them being able to leave any time soon. 

She’d like for them to eventually go to the Lighthouse or shape their own little home for themselves in the Fade. Which leads to another ambition of hers, learning how to better shape the Fade to her will. She finds her magic comes more easily for her in the Fade so she hopes in time, shaping the fade will come easy to her. (It also helps that she has an excellent teacher :) )

A distant but hopeful ambition would be to find a way to help Solas shoulder the burden of keeping the veil up as she worries about how it’ll affect him in the long run. Or perhaps, if at all possible, finding a peaceful way to bring down the veil for the betterment of elves and spirits.

Layer Three - Thoughts

First Thoughts Waking Up: Is this real? Is this really happening? For the first while in the Fade, she worries that she’ll wake up to the nightmare she was in and that being in the fade; reuniting with Solas was all a dream.

What They Think About Most:  Solas. Her friends and family that she left behind. She wonders if they’re doing alright. If they’re safe. If Solas’ efforts to soothe the Blight is helping. How the elves are fairing after everything that has happened. There are days where her negative emotions consume her but she’s glad she’s not alone. That Solas is there for her. Just as she’s there for Solas.

What They Think About Before Bed: When she’s not falling into bed for a ‘night’ (is there really such a thing in the Fade?) of passion with Solas? >:) 

She wonders how she can still dream while already in the Fade. She supposes that the Fade works in mysterious ways.

What They Think Their Best Quality Is: Her resilience and perseverance. Her ability to see the light in the darkness.

Layer Four - What’s Better?

Single or Group dates: Single. Though some wisps like to float around them out of curiosity. Or perhaps they’re even drawn to them.

To be Loved or Respected: To be loved. She can gain respect easily she suspects due to being the Inquisitor but what she treasures the most is receiving love from the people she cares about most.

Beaty or Brains: Brains. Juno wasn’t joking about Solas’ love burning against her like a bonfire! She loves every moment of it. She loves being with someone who can stimulate her mentally.

Dogs or Cats: Dogs. (I was playing around with the idea that Juno raised two young wolf pups.)

Layer Five - Do You?

Lie: Yes. As Inquisitor, she has to at times. To keep up morale and hope. She learned very early on that sometimes telling the truth is not necessarily the best course of action. However, when asked if she believes in the Maker, Andraste or anything that pertains to the Chantry, she won’t lie. She’ll say no.

Believe in Yourself: Yes. When Juno started on her path to ‘save’ Solas’ or better put, when she started to walk the Din’anshiral parallel to him not many believed in her cause. There were many times when she doubted herself but overall, she does. If she didn’t have the self confidence, the perseverance, she would have given up long ago.

Believe in Love: Yes she does and that’s not just because she is a former spirit of love. (Though it certainly does help.) She believes in familial love but at times, it is hard. She wishes it wasn’t so. She doesn’t understand how the love she has for her best friend Dorian comes so much easier to her then the love that she has for her family. And vice versa.

She believes in romantic love. Before she became Inquisitor, she was resigned to the fact that she would be forced to spend her life with someone she doesn’t love. Now? She’s eternally grateful and happy that that isn’t the case. She fully believes that love can endure any hardship and come out stronger. However, she isn’t naive enough to believe that love will save the day. She knows it won’t but it helps.

Want Someone: Juno did but not any longer. She has reunited with the love of her life. And he her. They have each other once again. She has who she wants.

Layer Six - Have You Ever?

Been on Stage: In the literal sense? No. In the metaphorical sense? Yes. As a public figure, she’s constantly on the public stage. At first, she stumbled and was uncomfortable with it but with time (and with the help of Josephine), she grew into it. However, June still felt the discomfort as she did not want the role that was thrust upon her but she had no other choice.

Done Drugs: Yes. When she was younger, she dabbled as much as she could as a young Dalish girl. Juno still smokes elfroot from time to time for medicinal and recreational purposes. She wished she had some with her when she entered the Fade to help ease Solas’ pain. But as we all know, the Fade works in mysterious ways…

Changed Who You Were to Fit In: Yes and no. As the Inquisitor, it was expected of her to act, talk and look a certain way. She was stubborn and held fast on certain things like her but everytime she gave in, she felt like she lost a piece of herself. She’s slowly regaining the lost pieces of herself now that she’s stepped back from her role as Inquisitor.

Layer Seven - What’s Their…

Favourite Colours: Greens and reds. They remind her of the forests where she grew up, of who she once was and who she hopes to be in the future.

Favourite Book: She doesn’t have a favourite book per say. Not any that are published literature that is. Her favourite book is something the cooks in Skyhold gave her as a goodbye gift when the Inquisition was disbanding. It’s handwritten recipes along with little notes and stories. She takes it wherever she goes and treasures it always.

Favourite Animal: Wolves.

Favourite Game: Puzzles. Whether it is word play or something else. As long as it is something that challenges her and makes her think.

Layer Eight - Age

DOB: Juno isn’t sure of the date or month she was born. She remembers being told that she was born when the temperature became mild. When the leaves changed colour and fell to the ground.

How Old Will You Be: She’s ageless now but when she entered the Fade, she was 34 years old. Being immortal is something that’ll take a while for her to get used to but at least she’ll have Solas to help her get used to it.

Age You Lost Your Virginity: She was 18 and she lost it to a 20 year old hunter that joined the clan a few years prior after he fled the city. He was her first love. She loved to hear his tales about the ‘outside’ world as grim as they sometimes could be. It ultimately didn’t work out as a few months later, she found out that she was to be bound to wed the Keeper’s son. They decided to part ways before things became too serious.

Does Age Matter: She would say no; at least when it comes to consenting adults. Before she knew the truth about Solas, she figured he was older than her and it didn’t bother her. Now that she knows the entire truth, she would be a hypocrite if his age did bother her. Before they reunited and before they figured out that she no longer ages; her fear was that she would continue to age and then die; leaving Solas alone.

Layer Nine - Finish the Sentence

I love: Solas! Exploring the Fade and talking with spirits. Finally being able to be myself.

I feel: Free. Hopeful. She feels guilt and sadness.

I hide: She tries not to hide her emotions and feelings. Solas and Juno promised each other that there’d be no more secrets between each other anymore.

I miss: My friends and family. Especially Dorian, Varric, Merril, her siblings and her little nieces. Being able to talk to Dorian through the sending crystal and the surprise visits from Cole helps soothe the ache a little.

I wish: She wishes to visit her twin sister one last time. When she left, they weren’t on the best of terms. (Her sister, Ne’ma, felt as though Juno abandoned them when she left for the Exalted Council. She was very pregnant at the time Juno left and had given birth during. Juno had missed the birth of her first child and had promised to be there for the birth of her second daughter. After breaking her promise to her sister, Juno tried to repair their relationship but the resentment was brewing for far too long. It was unrepairable.)

She hopes there will be a time where she can visit her sister in her dreams but she worries that she would be intruding in on her. One day, she may feel brave enough to try but for now it is a very distant wish.
