He won't make friends at all <3 he'll pretend to make friends , if it's useful. But he never stays in places longer than a week (if he can help it) and certainly never stays long enough to start enjoying the places he's staying at. The most meaningful relationship he has is with the caf machine on his ship lmao

AOENEOWJSORIE CRYING ok since there's basically no info on him in the ref sheet, here's the rundown. Beware of wall of text
Manta was raised on Glee Anselm in like, a boys home/orphanage sort of situation. Not a super great one either, so he quickly learned all the classic street rat philosophies of look out for yourself above others, you can't really trust other people, and so on. One of the few things that he was actually passionate about was pod racing. There was a lil holoscreen somewhere, and he'd always catch as many races as he could.
At around the age of uhh precocious teen, he manages to run away and stow away on a freighter headed to the galactic core. He ends up on coruscant but woops! It sucks! Without resources or anything, he leans on what he knows: Aladdin style stealing to survive. Gradually increasing the risk of the jobs to get more money.
Money that he hopes to use to build himself a speeder and become an actual pod racer.
While on coruscant hes not completely alone. Despite his best attempts at being a lone wolf, he does eventually team up. Specifically. Uh. Let's call them Julian. Julian is a whip smart nautolan that knows their way around a computer the way Manta knows his way around a speeder. They team up for a few jobs, n then there's an actual friendship. Julian also likes speeder races, and they decide to team up to build the most awesomest speeder ever.
Things are looking up for our boy, he's made a friend, as a sort of crime dynamic duo they also begin working with a bigger team. They're sort of recruited. For a while they get into classic heist shenanigans, and Manta and Julian's dream of getting enough money to get to a racing circuit is getting closer- UNTIL someone on the team double crosses them!!?!??!!
If you've ever seen Italian Job, it's the betrayal right at the start of that. Someone basically yk. Kills everyone to get all the money. So not exactly like Italian Job. Maybe the betrayer is some crime syndicate sort of guy, anyway they kill everyone (RIP Julian), fake their death, and leave Manta as a scapegoat.
So now Manta is back to square one, on the run with a different identity with no money and no friends and NO desire to ever have any friends ever again. In fact he has no desire to be meaningfully happy ever again because why even bother when everything is just going to come crashing down on you eventually.
And that's how we find him wandering around the outer rim and crime syndicates. Huzzah!
