Brief character introductions!! Nathaniel Kursko A cynical Shadow Company field surgeon who’d rather terrorize a pilot and risk a court-martial to stitch you up under mortar fire than admit he’s saving your life just so he can have some peace and quiet while knitting and binge-watching romantic comedies. Major Nathaniel Kursko. Major Kursko is my second main character in COD. Nathaniel is trauma surgeon working for Shadow Company. Callsign Needle, sometimes called Granny / Stitch. Nathaniel was a member of the Joint Medical Augmentation Unit (JMAU). He is a talented guy with a photographic memory, thanks to which he graduated from the USUHS (Uniformed Services University) with very high grades.
He's a serious guy who's tired of life. Ever since the army mocked him and tried to send him to work as a military lecturer at a medical school, Nathaniel gave them the finger and took Graves up on his offer, giving him carte blanche as long as he continued to assemble his men. In short he was generally charged with; Willful disobedience to the order of a senior officer. Exposing military assets (helicopter and crew) to undue risk. Threatening national security by disclosing a position in the "Denod" (Denied Operations) zone. Nathaniel is a man who is generally perceived as aloof. He walks the line between medical ethics and the ruthlessness of a special forces operator. He represents the "Lawful Neutral" type at its most cynical. His loyalty lies with the contract and the people around him, not the flag or ideology. He is cold, analytical. He is not the type of doctor who holds your hand and tells you everything will be alright. He makes decisions based on what he believes is right, not the emotional well-being of the patient. His warmth has long since been buried. As a trauma surgeon with the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), he has often made split-second decisions about life and death. This has instilled in him a confidence bordering on arrogance. He believes that if he can't fix someone, no one can. However, beneath his cynicism lies a deep fear of failure.
Additionally, he's a functioning depressive. This manifests itself through chronic insomnia and emotional coldness. Drug therapy allows him to function, but adrenaline is his true solace. However, he's a damn good listener. Among other things, he's a fan of romantic comedies and knitting.
