what gender is pipsqueak? Just asking since they look a bit ambiguous
Both Jumbledog and Pipsqueak have no concept of gender because of how the Critters work as a species! Critters are a semi-anomalous/semi-magical species that emerge from pools of stagnant water as pups - the water needs to be stagnant and full of enough nutrients to produce a critter pup. That means putting things like fallen leaves, fruits, fungus or nutrient rich soil into the pool will make more critters emerge from it. If more than one critter emerges from the same pool of water, those critters are family. Since there’s not really any reason for them to sexually reproduce (since they come from water,) they don’t have different sexes and therefore not really any reason to construct gender roles! Everyone just kind of is. Every critter uses any/all pronouns in real world languages, but I imagine in the Jungleverse language the critters only have one singular pronoun!
