The Hanged Man
Julian kneeled on the floor of his quaint home and ruined home, in his arms the trembling body of the woman he had come to adore - Dove. Long brown hair lay array across the floor as did her white chiffon dress, her translucent skin and sickly rosy joints all too familiar to the doctor. As she held onto his jacket with the last of her strength, her eyes shut as a pained expression was written all over her face - Julian thought back to their affairs together. Only 6 months ago a man had come to his door in the dead of night begging him to take his sick daughter in, a daughter sick with the red plague. Of course at first Julian refused, ordering for him to take the girl to a plague house, but as the older man began to break down in tears with his unconscious daughter lay back in his shaking arms, Julian was unable to say no. For a long time he would constantly wear his mask around her and he worked day and night to get her well again, but nothing quite ever seemed to work, until there was a breakthrough - unlike others with the plague, Dove was able to slightly walk and talk, something he'd never actually seen before. She was a plague advancement that gave Julian the belief she would get better and that the plague would clear up, but it never did, and Dove would still be ill. The doctor was never able to decipher what string of the plague she had, especially when he discovered that she wasn't contagious somehow - but none the less, none of that mattered now - nothing mattered now.
"Doctor," Dove muttered in a soft tone as her face contorted to utter sadness, Julian bringing a gloved hand up and stroking the dying girls face lovingly, the sick girl jumping at the cold leather touching her pale skin. "Doctor Julian, D-Doctor, Doctor, D-"
"Hush Dove, hush," Julian comforted as Dove continued to hold onto him with such power for a girl so ill and dying. "No more words now, I need you to be strong for me. I-I have a new medicine we can try! Yes, this'll work this time, and then we can-"
"No," The meek girl cut in. "No more medicine." She confessed as a trembling hand reached up for the doctor's face, Julian leaning into the cold palm as he grit his teeth, unable to let himself admit to the situation at hand - Dove was going to die, soon.
"Dove please, Dove I can't let you die, not like this, not on the floor of my home, not in this cold place, Dove," He lamented as tears fell from his eyes. "Please let me treat you, let you live a bit longer - I'm so close to curing this disease, and then we-...we can-" Before Julian could finish his sentence, he leaned down completely to envelop Dove in an embrace, a sob escaping his mouth as the girl lay still, unable to muster the strength anymore to hold him back, her hands lying on the floor.
"Let me die in peace, my love. No more medicine. No more tests - and, this is perfect for me, I have you, I have our house - do you remember all the times we spent here together? You would sit on the windowsill and read me the morning paper as I lay on my pillows. You'd sing to me the night I got too sick to stand, you'd sing me lovely songs of fields and open seas - places I never got to see. When I cried, you would hold me close and remove your mask to kiss me but once - you, Doctor, are everything I could've wanted. This house is not cold, Julian. It's warm with memories, with love - your spirit. Please, for me," Dove struggled to push open her eyes, but as she did, her deep brown eyes stared to the doctors exhausted and twisted face with nothing but love and admiration in her eyes - she wanted to see him one last time. "Live on."
"I love you Dove," Julian cried. "My God I love you so much." His words shook and broke as he held tightly onto the young woman as her eyes began to blink slowly, Julian's breath hitching as he watched the life fade from her eyes slowly, the man shaking his head in disbelief at what he was truly seeing unfolding before him - it was like a nightmare. And as if on cue, Dove's eyes closed, her breathing halting as the doctor stared on wide eyed, the trembling of her small body ceasing - she was gone.
Oliver character board, wow he has more then one shirt!
“I’m a person too” kinda a vent piece. An alternative ending to tbitw book if Oliver had gotten caught by the wrong person.
What’s your fave Oliver & Isaac moment?
I’m going to be drawing some of the scenes and I’d love to hear your suggestions. So yeah, any scene of the two that you partially like, just comment or message.
