Some pictures from the OC Throwdown!
My box competed in the OC Throwdown over the weekend...
and this is what happens when I don't check my email and miss the WODs because of work.
It was really interesting listening in on my box's Competitor Class introductory meeting. While I made it perfectly clear my goal was to be sitting in the same spot two to three years from now as a team member with a little bit more experience, it was still cool getting the debriefing, the history (I had no idea the team predated the location), the new competitor standards, and team philosophy.
One of the points brought up was the fact that despite being a competitor team, the box's team does not compete in any other event besides those sanctioned by Reebok: the Open and (hopefully) Regionals. The goal every year is to make it to that next step. And this seemed strange to me at first, because everyone there is so passionate about competing and basically has the entire East Coast WOD-off schedules memorized to a T. Competing is the time to show off just how well training has shaped an athlete, to justify all the time and sweat and put into every single week. But with the freak accidents like Kevin Ogar's at the OC Throwdown, and a history of "ridiculous" programming and injuries at local competitions, the team captain highly advised against these outlets, and pointedly said "we keep our eye on the big picture."
Does anyone else's box view competitions this way?
