Eastside by Khalid ft. Halsey was one of the First songs I ever gave them and still hits really hard so let’s take a look at it.
send me 🎼 + an oc/ship & I’ll give you a full breakdown for one of their theme songs
When I was young, I fell in love
We used to hold hands, man, that was enough (Yeah)
Then we grew up, started to touch
Used to kiss underneath the light on the back of the bus (Yeah)
They were pre-teens when they first met. Back then, all love meant to them was holding hands sweet kisses on the cheek. However, as they grew older, both started to yearn for a little bit more.
I know your daddy didn't like me much
And he didn't believe me when I said you were the one
Oh, every day, she found a way out of the window to sneak out late
Farley comes from nobility in Acropolis. Her noble parents don’t take kindly to the idea of hr running around in the demon world with a ‘mongrel’ But she would sneak out to see him anyway.
She used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don't set
And every day, you know that we'd ride
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
This imagery is really reminiscent of them running through the demon world taking over different territories together. In particular, ‘the city where the sun don’t set’ reminds me a lot of the demon world
Baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the sea
Just take my hand and come with me, yeah
Wolf always waits for her to come running back to the demon world. He doesn’t care where they go as long as he has her by his side.
This lines also sounds like Farley desperate need to leave Acropolis. She doesn’t care where she goes, as long as, she doesn’t have to go back there.
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your old life, then you put a line through it
These lines really captures how Wolf encourages Farley to be her own person. He really thinks that he can do anything with her by his side. And he also encourages to be her own person and put her past behind. He encourages her to live the way she wants.
My love is yours if you're willing to take it
Give me your heart 'cause I ain't gonna break it
So come away, starting today
Start a new life together in a different place
We know that love is how all these ideas came to be
So baby, run away with me
Farley is willing to give her heart to Wolf, all he has to do is ‘take it’
Like I said above, Wolf just wants Farley to live by her own terms which is highlighted by the line ‘start a new life together in a different place’
17, and we got a dream to have a family
A house, and everything in between
And then, oh, suddenly, we turned 23
And now we got pressure for taking our life more seriously
We got our dead-end jobs and got bills to pay
Our old friends are now our enemies
And now I, I'm thinking back to when I was young
Back to the day when I was falling in love
‘Pressure to take our life more seriously’ connects to how Farley had to grow up fast after being locked out of Acropolis.
He used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don't set
And every day, you know where we'd ride
Through the backstreets in a blue Corvette
And baby, you know I just wanna leave tonight
We can go anywhere we want
Drive down to the coast, jump in the sea
Just take my hand and come with me, singing
(see chorus analysis above)
We can do anything if we put our minds to it
Take your old life, then you put a line through it
My love is yours if you're willing to take it
Give me your heart 'cause I ain't gonna break it
So come away, starting today
To start a new life together in a different place
We know that love is how all these ideas came to be
So baby, run away with me
Run away now, run away now
Run away now
Run away now, run away now
Run away now
The repetition of ‘run away’ connects really well with Wolfs pleas for Farley to run away with him and do what her heart wants.
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside
He used to meet me on the Eastside
She used to meet me on the Eastside
In the city where the sun don't set
