After like a whole yr, I finally made character sheets for my main OCs. 👉👈 Debating whether I want to make my Corrie OCs next or if I wanna make my Jedi Knight and his Pro Wrestler clone pals
this is a bit of a weird one, but sometimes when i struggle with my art i go back and trace over / touch up some old drawings in my sketchbook, and yesterday i'd gone through and gotten photos of all of the Soundscapes art from 2016 to early 2017 and found this one
and, like. i very clearly remember the state i was in when i drew this originally. it was the lowest point of my life. but a song kept coming on the radio, over and over: we were staying in paris / to get away from your parents / and i thought, wow, if i could take this in a shot right now / i don't think that we can work this out
and basically the only thing that kept me together during that time was drawing these guys over and over and over. i didn't have access to the internet or even my phone so i couldn't look up references (which is why Sol's markings are wrong - i hadn't drawn him enough to memorize his design yet), but i kept getting the chorus stuck in my head so i grabbed some markers, sat down in the activity room, and drew this
it's been 6 and a half years and i'm doing way better now than i was then. let's show them we are better!
So when O66 hits and Quips and Paean are trying to get off world with Whistle and Caddy and crew, and Stutter who is chipped shows up shit hits the fan. Stutter was always a devoted and loyal soldier willing to give above and beyond 100% to the cause, and the chip doesn't change that. Stutter went through ARC training, and while Quips hadn't, he was the one closest to physically be able to stand toe to toe with his ori'vod as Stutter for years taught him ARC training techniques anytime their battalions linked up. But the chip makes it so Stutter has no reservations for holding back and he is fully trying to beat Quips to death while Quips is pulling his punches and is getting absolutely demolished. It isn't til Quips is holding onto Stutter's armor and hanging off his helmet trying to push him away and calling him 'Tut' like he used to when they were cadets barely out of the tube and like a standard 5 yr old Quips is hanging from his ori'vod's sleeve and sniffling from the bad dream he just had. That's what gets Stutter to freeze long enough for Whistle and Caddy to stun him and drag him off Quips long enough to make their escape.
started doing one big sketchpage again so here's a crop from a corner of it
these are two of the protags of Soundscapes! Different Frequencies (he/him, grey husky-shepard mix) and Stutter (she/her, orca-ish) are part of the Indies, a small group of guys traveling around trying to find the source of corruption putting their friends and foes in danger.
Freq is the unofficial leader and has the poorly-understood power to decorrupt people, so he feels a lot of responsibility and does his best to help everyone he comes across. Stu, meanwhile, is impulsive to a fault and ends up in deep trouble before she understands what exactly she's gotten herself into. they're besties!
F) What do you feel when you think of your OC (pride, excitement, frustration, etc)?
Quips - Respect. I feel so sorry for him in a lot of ways, he's taking on worlds upon his shoulders and deciding he has to bear it all without a complaint, stumble or falter. I'd say I feel pity, but I know that he works so hard and does so much to pity him would be discrediting his efforts in a way. He doesn't want that pity, he wants to succeed. He wants to save clones.
Stutter - Excitement. I love Stutter, I love his story almost as much as I love Quips'. Despite the things Stutter goes through, the really hard and awful shit he deals with, I'm excited because once he pushes through that, and gets himself sorted and figured out where he wants to plant his feet and push through at - I know great things are gonna happen for him.
Jabber - Uncertainty. I don't really know why I can't get Jabber the way I get the others. He's sort of this weird enigma to me and I don't know why. I know when he crash lands, his chip is damaged. He goes through a lot of hell dealing with the emotional ups and downs that goes with his TBI. Aside from that...? Where are you? What do you want to do? Do you even care enough to return? Do you remember?
Hummer - Pride. Hummer went through so so much emotional turmoil and despite almost dying, he not only pulled through but he pushed through. He's on the other side and once he joins the Rebellion, it's like his true callings are opening up to him. He thought he was going to be the second of the batch to die but now he's working harder than ever to try and keep himself alive.
G) What trait of theirs bothers you the most?
Quips + Whistle - Their inability to fully allow others to shoulder any of their burdens. It's like pulling fucking teeth trying to get them to offload anything onto others. They're both so perfect for one another as best friends, but it's also why they're so fucking difficult because they enable one another and piss each other off by deciding to keep shit to themself or add more things to their already mountainous pile of shit to deal with. They're working themselves to death and it's frustrating knowing they have the resources to be helped but they're actively refusing a majority of the time.
Caddy - His people pleasing and willingness to allow others to project onto him means he's putting up a front a majority of the time. Because some of the older vode sometimes want someone to fuss over, he allows them to sort of give him the little brother treatment but it sometimes goes to the extreme where they act like he's completely inept and he won't stand up for himself. He knows he's capable and stuff, but sometimes he thinks his own feelings and identity aren't as important as what others wish him to be like or how they see him.
H) What trait do you admire most?
The three of them - Their tenacity is incredible. They're relentless in pushing through to the bitter end. You could tell them if they try and help someone, you'll break a bone in their body if they try and they'll still do it even if you try breaking every bone in their bodies. They took an oath to make sure everyone has the best chance possible in living a long and healthy life, and they'll do their best to ensure it.
Stutter + Hummer - Their kindness despite everything that's happened will never be understated to me. They both went through so much and suffered so much, but they still decide what they want more than anything in the world is to make it a kinder place for everyone.
OC moments I've been rotating around in my brain as of late like they're on a microwave dish
- After O66 is put into place (idk if I want it before Utapau or following canon) Stutter and Quips are fighting it out as Stutter is trying to take the "traitors" back to command, while Quips is trying to get out with Paean and Whistle and Caddy. As they're fighting - extremely brutally as the two are releasing years of pent up frustrations and aggression and Stutter with his chip active is pulling no punches - he's got Quips beat to hell; and right as he's nearly killing Quips, Quips is holding his sleeve and calls him "Tut," which is Stutter's nickname since childhood. Quips never used it unless he was really hurt, scared, sick, or just ut of it as he felt it was too childish of him to call his brother that. The last time he did that was post Umbara and Paean nearly killed himself. It gives Stutter a brief enough moment of clarity and pause for Quips' friends and Paean to drag him off to safety and they make their escape.
- When Whistle meets Master Stoll and Padawan Ko again, one of the things Yeong-Ja asks Whistle is what she did to make his brothers hate her so much and what she can do to make amends for whatever it is that make them so mad at her. Whistle assures her it's nothing she did, it's the chips, it's life and orders; but she still asks that once he frees his batchers from the chip for him to tell his brothers she apologizes and hopes they can still play cards again some day.
- After Quips was going through his recovery period, one of the things he struggled a lot with to his frustration was the sight of other people's blood. He'd experience battle shock and he couldn't hold his tools in steady hands, it made his so angry to no ends. It's one of the reasons why he started making educational videos about medicine and medical procedures, since Caddy told him he can still help by sharing his knowledge and expertise without having to witness the injury itself. This even had Quips for a time being a literal on comms doctor, being told what an injury looked like, a person's symptoms and pain levels and whatnot and Quips would over the comms diagnose and help provide a treatment plan. Eventually he started making his way back into hands on practice once he recovered more. His tenacity to help others is one of the main reasons why The Runner grew so fond of him in the first place.
- Hover and Lam are tasked with trying to track down any Guard vode they can acting as a sort of search and rescue; but of course their main priorities were the commanders. They eventually meet Hyena and Jackal and the pair act as sort of body guards to Hov and Lam. Hover is good at using his observational and slicing skills, Hyena is extremely strong and good at strategic planning, Lam does well at the more finesse aspects of the search and rescue while Jackal uses his experience as a 91st Recon to help scout and plan out infiltration. They make a good team and it's how Hyena and Jackal get pulled out of hiding in the lower 000 levels and back into the fight.
