Teek d'Arc, my not-evil wizard, hopeless suitor (emphasis on the hopeless), and almost-antagonist of TEQ, has an arcane personality disorder that (amongst other things) makes his physical appearance change depending on his mood.

This means I have to actually remember what his different appearances actually look like, so I'm sharing these excerpts mostly as a reminder to myself xD

Happy

...eventually revealing themself to be a short, plump elf with deep grey skin, freckled cheeks framed by a mass of deep brown curls, dressed monochromatically in a sleeveless tunic, simple skirt, and knee-high boots.

Afraid

...even as he spoke his face began to change. And not in the way a face usually changes, brow furrowing and the corners of the mouth dipping into a frown. Instead, or perhaps as well, his nose and chin and ears became sharper, more severe; his curvaceous form condensing into a body shorter and stockier as dark skin faded and shifted into a paler grey, freckles vanishing; curls dropping and lengthening until his hair fell to his waist, now pin straight and tinted with the opalescent blue of an oil slick. Unaware, or perhaps uncaring, of the change, he pinned them with cloudy grey eyes that had previously been an earthy brown.

Angry

His appearance began to change again, skin and eyes darkening until irises so golden they were almost red glared from beneath bushy eyebrows; clothes tightening as his body grew taller and widened with muscle; long hair shrinking into his scalp until deep red tufts sat atop a much squarer face than before, just long enough to brush the bottom of his shortened ears.

Sad

...making him taller and skinnier than any of his previous countenances, with sunken cheeks and pallid skin, eyes a deep brown and hair short, black and lifeless, draping limply across his forehead.

The only hint of colour was a bright red swatch of fabric tied around the top of their crooked purple staff.

Unaware, or perhaps uncaring, of the change, he pinned them with cloudy grey eyes that had previously been an earthy brown.

His appearance began to change again, grey eyes turning golden as his skin shifted to a mid-brown dotted with a flurry of freckles; long hair shrinking into his scalp until a fiery-hued mohawk sat atop a much rounder face than before.

His appearance had shifted yet again to someone unfamiliar; his hair, now black as a raven feather, let flat against his forehead, just long enough to drift when he blinked. His dark skin had faded to a dull grey whilst his eyes, downcast as they were, had turned a green so pale they were almost white. His features had sharpened, but there was something uneven about his new face, as if one side were struggling to catch up to the other.

Writing a shapeshifting character is fun, but you know what isn’t fun? Keeping track of what they look like in each scene. So here’s a reference post, for myself, in an attempt to remember what Teek actually looks like.

Hey, it's Saturday! What is Tim's most useful spell? Not necessarily the biggest or flashiest one, but what does he use 90% of the time to deal with the situations that maybe get just a tad out of hand?

So Tim doesn’t actually use magic that much? Mostly because he tends to forget he’s a wizard, but partly because he’s really bad at it. He’s dyslexic, so the words of the spells tend to get all muddled up in his brain and he ends up casting something unintended. (He tries to cast ‘enlarge’ on a tent and the squad end up being chased by a terrifying fanged tent-monster when he accidentally casts ‘enrage’ instead.)

The spell he uses most in TLD (and by most I mean twice) is ‘Charm’. The first time he misses off the ‘c’ and ends up sending a bolt of fire straight into a shelf of YA novels, accidentally burning down an entire bookshop. The second time Cedrix gives him a pep talk ft. an alternate way of thinking about casting that lowers the risk of spelling errors, and that goes significantly better.

(Teek from TEQ though? Teleportation. Things going wrong? Teleport. About to bump into someone he doesn’t want to talk to? Teleport. Can’t be bothered walking? Teleport. About to be assaulted by murder grandma? Teleport. What word have I written so many times it no longer seems like a real word? Teleport.)

Hi (and sorry for the lateness!) again @writingamongthecoloredroses.

I always feel bad about answering these kind of questions because I don’t actually have an antagonist 😂 It’s kind of a Loop trademark.

The closest I have is probably Teek d’Arc from The Ex Quest? His relationship with the trio is mostly “who the heck are you and WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?!”, and his relationship with Iaqc is just Regret™.
