Lorenzo was bound to a book, cursed from a witch from the time he was alive. He never thought he would get an escape but as the book traveled from owner to owner, he was seeing the world as it progressed in its time. There were times when he was released but it was always a spell that kept him attached. As long as he could be attached to an object, he could easily move around. But as he soon learned, the book became more than just his cursed item. It was a home with writings and languages he became to know. Eventually, he ended up in an abandoned and run down-home.
His only escape was when children were exploring the home. Often, he found this to be entertaining as kids ran away in fear from the creaks in the floor. It wasn’t until a woman had come in to salvage the items before he saw the light of day.
Now in the present day, he sat on the bookshelf of a family-run thrift shop. In his spare time, he would often throw around a basketball and play with the clothes on the racks. Most of the time, there weren’t a lot of people who didn’t walk over to the books section so when they did, he followed in anticipation. It was almost as if he was waiting to be adopted.
Expecting the brunette to skip on his book, he was intrigued to find she had picked it from the rest. Opening to a page, she read the contents and her eyebrows furrowed. It was in latin, no doubt. He tilted his head looking from the page to herself. Why would she have wanted something so questionable?
Regardless, he watched as she held onto it and made her way to the front to pay.

That night, Ellie's friend had come over with a bag. “So, I know you said no gifts but I thought this would be funny.” She set it down on the counter and pushed it towards her. “And I hope you remember {about the time that we went to that haunted tree that everyone used to go to}”.
