#159: Chapter Two Epilogue

Whew! With the biggest and strangest page yet, Chapter Two has come to an end! We finally get a good look at the big bad himself!

Yeah, that’s right! Monsters’ souls are humanoid! Ain’t that neat? As you can see, because Ocàyuu has a soul of sight, she has a heart on her chest that glows green. Malvox’s heart-thingy is black because... well, you can come to your own conclusions on that. And Nelun Soma’o’s heart-thingy is not visible because he isn’t dead yet, he’s just visiting. You can think of the Bridge as the Void’s prison visitation center, kinda.

One of the things I want to focus on in this story is unconventional villains. Nelun Soma’o is very much one of those. As you can see from the third panel, he’s not your typical evil overlord— He’s actually very fair and respectful to his minions, and he recognizes his own mistakes. He’s a pretty great guy... if you’re on his side. Also, the concept of a villain firing one of his minions for not being a team player is hilarious to me.

Writing boss battles is definitely the hardest part of this comic, because I have to find unique ways of having Mysta defeat bosses to avoid it getting boring while staying within the confines of what I can visually represent AND without creating a perfect reusable strategy that she could just use to kill every boss (boring).

Mysta’s “stategies” always seem to revolve around doing something so stupid not even a gigantic brain could see it coming. I mean, I can’t exactly fault her for it if it keeps working.

Also, happy Pride month! It’s a good time to remind everyone that I’m a non-binary trans girl, and no exclusionists of any sort are tolerated here! I’ll make a Pride month post at some point soon, probably give all the side characters canon identities since I did that for a few of the main characters last year. Actually, you know what? Mysta is trans now, too. I make the rules here.

Yes, if you’re wondering, *every* monster has a name and pronouns, this is just the first one to introduce herself. Malvox uses it/it because it’s agender, canonically. Probably not the best non-binary rep but I am non-binary so sue me. Oh, and Ocàyuu is pronounced [oʃˈɔːˌju] (”oh-SHAW-you”), if you’re wondering.
