I went down to the Occupy MN site last night.  It was great.  Becca & I sat with these great people & talked political ideology & stuff for two hours.  It was so nice, & made me feel confident in humanity.  Which is not something I often feel.

Chanel Chatham are you really sitting here making fun of me for this? like im some sad joke? you dont know that the canadians started, and whether they started it or not does it matter? the principles of the occupy movement is based off all things that apply to our country, banking industry, economy, and government. are you unaware of what it is that they're saying? its not old news, whats old news is your apathy.

The spirit of OccupyMN has infected the Minneapolis peace movement. Peace activists have been seen at The People's Plaza in downtown Minneapolis and a number of new people participating in this march came from the OccupyMN contingent. International Anti-War Days, October 15/16, 2011, was celebrated in Minneapolis with a march down Lake Street, ending up at South High School. This was the largest crowd of peace activists seen on the streets for some time. National anti-war sentiment seems to be increasing and the OccupyMN activities at The People's Plaza (Hennepin County Government Center) have stimulated formerly reticent individuals to come out and demonstrate against government actions. There is also an increasing awareness that the war expense is a major factor in our financial woes and a building revulsion of the human cost of war among civilian populations around the world. Anti-war protests and protests against austerity budgets and cuts to social services were planned in cities around the world the weekend of October 15/16. The October 15 protest in Minneapolis was initiated by Minnesota Peace Action Coalition. I was trying to explain to my friend the other day that women's rights (and those of other minority and/or marginalized groups) MUST be part of the Occupy movement. Poverty affects women in specific ways. Maintaining a clear and focused message (which he argued for) cannot be used as an excuse for ignoring the particular needs and demands of women, black people, immigrants, indigenous people, LGBT people, etc.
