Getting very annoyed with some takes lately…..
Y’all
Pirates are not revolutionaries.
They aren’t radicals.
They are criminals.
Pirates are anarchists only so much as the government wants them to not be pirates and they don’t care.
They’re perfectly willing to work with government officials on the down low to get things sold at ports, or to trade.
Which isn’t going against any pirate morals or whatever because they aren’t a social movement.
Do they go against the Navy to try to disrupt the governments processes? No they go against the Navy because the Navy is trying to stop them from doing crime. They’d likely prefer to avoid it actually.
Do they try to get other impoverished or underprivileged people involved to create a movement and promote effective change? Do they try to uplift non-pirate impoverish and underprivileged people? No. They don’t. Because piracy is crime not some grand cause.
This is what happens when people think of social progressivism as just punching the government and not having a strong sense of ethics and trying to uplift others.
(There are 1715 radicals and revolutionaries that are about to begin the enlightenment, not especially so by today standards, but just being anti-monarchy pro people was a big deal back then, this is going to lead to the French and American revolutions.)
