as someone with OCD,
i love your headcanon of OCD grant!!! do you have any thoughts about him that havent made in it any fics yet? how did you come up with the idea od OCD grant as well, if your willing to share
hes so special to me, thank you for writing 💗
So I have to say OCD Grant is definitely not mine, though I can't say who originally put that idea in my head. I don't want to guess in case I'm really wrong.
I started with writing him as OCD for another fan of that head canon and it fit really well so I did it again for disability pride month. My current counselor is on a ***mission*** to convince me I have OCD so I've done some research on it which made it easier to write.
I don't know if I have other headcanons for him specifically since I don't have one strong world built around it, but maybe some headcanons about how the people around him react would be fun for you? Lark- I think before and after Grant is diagnosed Lark's the one most likely to give into Grant's compulsions. Like I imagine Grant getting panicky at school that he's got a weapon on him so he goes to Lark to just be like, can you double check that I don't have weapons on me? Lark complies. Even after the diagnosis. Lark will occasionally tell him to fuck off, but he gets what clawing mental health is and he can't bring himself to say no. Terry- Probably one of the first people to clock the compulsions thanks to therapy mom. After the diagnosis he's all about researching and being the best possible helper. All grounding exercises and how long can you hold off doing the compulsion and checking in about his ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention). He's just hell bent on helping. Sparrow - I'm not as sure on Sparrow. I think at some point he finds out that feeling the feeling and viewing the thought as a thought can be helpful and just latches onto that. Whenever Grant starts spiraling Sparrow just yells at him "feels your feelings" and pokes him in different spots asking "is it here, is it here, are you sad, are you scared, think your thought and let it go." The helpfulness of it varies and most of the time it doesn't make things worse. Grant is not really a fan. Nicky- Distraction king. He has no idea what to do to be helpful, or very little, but he's always dealt with his feelings by doing something else, so he's always handing Grant a switch or steam deck. This is not helpful, but Nicky is doing his best. He gets flustered when Terry tries to explain that distractions can become compulsions. He gets better about helping Grant over the years. If we're playing with my system Nicky head canon, Nick never gets better about distraction mode and offers weed and gaming 24/7. Nicky gets pretty good at helping Grant, and Nicholas thinks he's being helpful by taking Grant on hikes and telling him not to worry so much. Unhelpfull, but easily ignored because Nicholas is a kid. I'm not going to go much into the Dad's here unless someone wants me to, this is already hella long, but I do want to say I can 100% see OCD Darryl. I think Grant getting diagnosed helps Darryl realize what's going on with himself and he clumsily gets better thanks to Grant. Thanks for the Ask! It was a fun warm up before I go write other stuff. My asks are always open!
