Note: From August 31 Please read caption! Credit © 🎞 ✅ @magnus_lundborg 🖋 Yesterday I swam across this.. it covered about 20m2 on a depth of 5 meters and 1.5 meters above the ocean floor. Beautiful at first sight.. But this thing is devestating for the animals that lives around it. What you see in the photo is a bacteria that emits hydrogen sulfide. It creates a deadly low-oxygen condition. . . Hydrogen sulfide is poisonous to all living organisms. It’s a veil of death. In this place I usually see a lot of fish, shrimp, starfish, and crabs. Yesterday it was almost empty, only a few jellyfishes swam above it. Whats causing this? This is the most intersting time for freediving on the West coast of Sweden. Even in the heavily overfished Skagerrak.
