okay so as I was saying to kate, I feel like emma knows the selznicks pretty well since they are so close with the connors and idk she’s probably just kinda low-key adopted them, too, tbh, and even tho chris is like in his thirties she probably kinda acts like his mom sometimes smdh

First date: Please be weird like me || Chridie (Chris + Birdie)

Birdie is certain she was high as a kite when she agreed to go on a date with Chris Selznick at the Fusion Restaurant. It’s not like she doesn’t work there or anything like that... Or that he isn’t best friends with her brother. But Stu had asked so nicely and well, she’d set him up with enough bad dates that she owed him.

Still, she has spent the whole day in a frenzy, even going as far to ask Sally for clothing advice. Birdie hardly ever needs to get an okay from another person about what she’s going to wear. Clothing is the easy thing in life... but apparently not today. 

The only good thing about the whole situation is that Chris is meeting her at the restaurant and not picking her up. Birdie’s certain she would have faked sickness if that was the case. 

“Hey girl,” she told the on-shift hostess when she arrived. “I’m actually here to eat... with a date.” It sounded just as strange out loud as it had in her head all day. Birdie is ready to just bail and call in sick when she catches Chris’ eye.

“Oh, found him,” she tells the hostess before quickly walking past her in order to avoid any further questions.  

It doesn’t take Birdie long to reach their table. She tries to remind herself to smile because this is really not that big of a deal. After all, she gets along with Owen... (who is known to be the hardest of the Selznick brothers) So, if she can do that, then surely she can easily ace this date. Plus, he’s best friends with Stu - so obviously that counts for something too. Right? 

She’s at the table now and he’s standing up, so Birdie let’s out right away, “Hey, sorry I’m late,” she couldn’t even blame it on getting lost. Birdie was purely late because of her nerves. So instead, Birdie just lets out a light laugh and brushes some of her hair behind her ear.

AND THE SELZNICK CLAN IS COMPLETE!!!!!! 

Okay, so here is what Kate & I decided for the Selznicks: 

Their parents met and married v young. I think their mom got pregnant with Chris and they kinda rushed into getting married before they even really knew each other and basically things were bad from the start there

(We kinda imagined the mom as being like Jess Mariano’s mom from Gilmore Girls while their dad was like John Winchester from Supernatural and like how does that relationship even work?!?!? Spoiler alert: it doesn’t)

Anyway, we were thinking that they actually lived somewhere in Northern Colorado idk where exactly but somewhere in the mountain where it gets pretty cold in the winter aka the opposite of va beach and tbh you’d probably be able to pick out exactly where b/c obvi you know that area better than we do

I’ll have to look up to find out exactly where, but when they were kids their parents moved them to VA Beach to try to make a fresh start, but it just made things worse, plus they lost their support system that they had back west (aka friends/family) and I think it took like a year and then they divorced and the kids kept going back and forth between the mom and dad and it was awful and neither one of them were cut out to be parents and yeahh

Anyway, Owen doesn’t really like his parents, especially his dad, but he loves his bros more than anything and he just wants them to be happy (not that he’d say it in so many words) and he hates that Chris’s marriage ended in divorce and alsjdflakjdsflkajdsf he has so many emotions about his bros tbh (but you didn’t hear that from me) 

So, what’s Chris like? It really doesn’t matter b/c Owen loves him, regardless, but just curious <3

Since Chris is trying to start dating again, like his first date since he got divorced should be with Kara b/c you know that would be an acTUAL DISASTER. Like she’s probably really late and someone gets food poisoning and something probs gets set on fire??? 

Maybe it’s even a blind date b/c idk that they know each other? Like maybe he asks Will if he knows anyone and Will asks Annie and Annie is like “oh yeah my roommate kara is sad and single” ;DD
