2:12AM...Going Back For More Timber

Wall/Gate Repairs [Max 4 muses per thread] - Trades 1 bundle of timber per post - Restores village health

The stiff fabric of Python's new tunic scratches against his skin, pressed in close against his shoulder by the weight of the timber he carries toward the edges of the village. He grimaces, adjusts its position—which only manages to make a different spot scratch against him than before—and trudges on toward his destination. Nightfall hasn't brought any more swarms of nightmares yet, but he's not counting on that luck to continue to hold. And with the walls in the sorry state they are since the last attack, he doesn't trust them to hold either. He drops the bundle of wood into the grass with a long-suffering sigh, brushing splinters off of his shirt. Weary eyes assess the damages. This section has already had its frame rebuilt, but it needs reinforcement if it's going to withstand a moderately heavy rainstorm, let alone an assault. His eyes turn to the students accompanying him, and he suppresses another sigh. "Well, looks like we've got our work cut out for us. Everyone grab a plank—we'll start on the, uhh…" He scans the wall, taking in just how many open spaces there are to fill. "…Just start wherever."

     The alarm pierces the night has Andrei immediately on guard. It’s inevitable that those... things would come again in the night. Without a second thought, he rushes towards the walls he is closest to, path converging with a few allies along the way.

     At first, their enemies number few, and he looks to the others, noticing for the first time the unfamiliar face. A villager...? But she too holds a makeshift weapon in her hands, and as Andrei watches her and Ashe scale the walls before him, he decides that this is neither time for introductions nor interrogations. They could settle that once they — and the village — survive through the night.

     He is only midway up the steps towards the walls when a great flood of the same formless monsters emerges along the horizon, the same wave as had happened in the previous attack. At the same time, a rumbling cracking of earth from the distance resounds through the area, and a great tree erupts from the earth, grotesquely intertwined with a half-rotted corpse, halfway unearthed and tangled within the roots.

     As horrifying as it is, the tree does not immediately advance, and Andrei’s attention is quickly drawn to the monsters that have approached the walls once more, bashing into them with unnerving familiarity. Once more, there are too many for the three of them to handle, especially with the flimsy, hastily-made replacement weaponry they have on hand. He grits his teeth, drawing back his bow. They’ve no other choice.

     It is not enough, as he expected. Wouldn’t have been, even if he’d scaled the wall to the greatest vantage point. “Finish it off!” he calls out to the others, frustration evident in his voice.

It would not be a surprise to see that once more her dreams have turned cruel.

There is a moment where Corrin cannot breathe -- where the rest of the world is gone and all that remains is herself and the silhouette of her guiding songstress only a yard away. 

Azura was gone. She knew it in the hollow of her chest, in every breath she took. That connection they had once shared was severed with the cold edge of an unforgiving blade. She hadn’t even said a proper goodbye.

And yet there she stood, with that same grace that Corrin had so deeply revered. Crimson eyes are wet with tears well before she has the time to register the feeling, fingers trembling where they rest at her sides.

Feet move of their own volition -- one step and then another, each faster than the last. She has seen the dead roam these halls before, feels the cold touch of her elder brother’s ghost even now, but Azura had been different. Azura had never come back.

She stops a breath away. Just close enough to touch, just far enough that she doesn’t. A shaky breath, trembling hands raising and then pausing, falling lamely back to her side. For if this truly was a dream, she could not risk even the illusion of her dearest friend.

“ Azura? ” Her voice feels far away, dry in her throat. “Is that... really you?”

Night before Dawn of The Final Day

The past few weeks had been surprisingly difficult in the village. Guarding sleeping bodies was tougher than at first glance, especially when the relative safety of the town walls came under threat. Byleth took up their position in front of the wall, prepared for the now familiar night long siege. At least they had the comfortingly familiar feeling of their own weapons about their person. Now they could do some proper damage to these creatures. And they had enough built up concern and frustration to unleash. 

Noticing the slime chewing on their carefully constructed defences, Byleth darted to the side, lashing out with their fists. The whole group had worked hard on maintaining these walls and they weren’t going to let some blob destroy it.

With only a puddle of black ooze staining the grass, Byleth returned their gaze to keeping a watch on the tree line for more approaching slimes. A line of Green coloured slimes could just be made out, exiting the tree line and making their way towards the wall. Trusting their team mates to take out the ones to the left and Right, Byleth focussed on the one heading straight for them.

Another one down, and the village containing their sleeping companions a bit safer, Byleth took a breather. Wiping the excess slime off their knuckles on some vegetation, they called up to their companions on the wall.  “Two more slimes incoming to the left and right. Reckon we can take them both out before they cause too much damage”
