Once upon a time, in a bustling kingdom, there lived a young maiden with golden hair. She lived in a small room, over a small shop, with her small sister. The sisters were orphans, and so it fell upon the maiden to care for their family. And though she worked many jobs throughout the kingdom, she spoke to few and kept to herself.
On the outskirts of the city lived a goblin, and he had set his eyes on the sisters. In the middle of the night, he whisked them away to his castle. The girls were so scarcely known that no one noticed they were gone.
The goblin trapped the girls in separate towers, and warned the maiden that she must do as he said, or else he would eat her sister. He instructed her to use his magic spinning wheel and make him gold - which he could use to secure more children for his supper. The maiden pleaded with his for her sister’s release, and the goblin agreed on one condition. If she could discover his name, both she and her sister could go free.
But the maiden was trapped alone in the tower. She worked day and night at the wheel, and hardly had time to think about the goblin’s name. Until one day, a wandering prince caught sight of her through her window. He called out to her, entreating her to join him. When the maiden described her torment, the prince did not hesitate to offer his help. If she would keep the goblin at bay, he would use all his resources to discover the goblin’s name and secure their freedom.
