Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon

This Saturday (3/7), join Oberlin College Libraries in collaboration with the Allen Memorial Art Museum for the fourth annual Wikipedia Art + Feminism Edit-a-Thon! This global event seeks to expand the number of Wikipedia entries written about women and gender non-binary artists. This year, the event is also celebrating the centennial of women’s suffrage in the United States.

Interested?  Drop by to the Allen Memorial Art Museum at any time between 12pm to 4pm on Saturday, March 7th. If you’ve never edited a Wikipedia page before, not to worry! We’ll teach you. Snacks will also be provided. People of all gender identities and expressions are encouraged to participate. We hope to see you there!

Research Help Desk, a voter registration station.

100 years ago women all over the United States, including Oberlin students and grads like Mary Church Terrell were marching in parades and participating in protests to bring attention to the importance of ratifying the 19th amendment, granting women the right to vote. Women 100 years ago understood that voting was having a voice in shaping our country.  Voting was a recognition of equality and citizenship in the United States.  Voting was a voice, a powerful voice, a must have and a must do.

Today Oberlin is a participant in the Voter Friendly Campus program, a nonpartisan program to promote voting and civic engagement.  As part of this program the main library reference staff has designated the Research Desk as a voter registration station. So if you are 18 years old and have not yet registered to vote or if you have moved since you last voted, stop by the Research Help desk to register/change address so you can vote in the upcoming primary election.  You must register/update your address by Feb. 18, 2020 to vote in the Ohio primary on March 17, 2020.  You can check your voter status at MyOhioVote.com

A Morning in Tustin

Ellie and I did a little exploration today, starting with Citrus Ranch Park in Tustin. This is a fully accessible park (stroller friendly) with winding trails and epic views. 

Even on a beautiful Saturday morning in summer, it wasn’t too busy. We arrived shortly after 9am and the temps were perfect (around 75 degrees). The trail is strewn with lemons, and flanked by lemon groves.

Afterward we went to Tustin Library down the road, for the first time. It was such a sunny, bright, and large space. Ellie had this playroom to herself for a little bit.

Looking forward to revisiting this library in the future, especially as she gets older. On the way out I noticed their summer programs included a magician and opportunities to read to animals. One of the things I love about the public library is that it provides such a wonderful and safe environment for kids. During the summer, any child can eat lunch here for free during the week, which is a huge benefit for families who are food insecure.

Now we are back home. Steven is getting his oil changed, Ellie is napping, and this mama is looking forward to a hot shower and relaxation after 2 hours out!

🌲OwlCrate June Box Photo Challenge: Bookends on Shelf🌲 . Hi, guys! For today’s #oclibraries prompt, I’d like to share the GORGEOUS set of Narnia bookends, designed by the incredibly talented @heyatlascreative, displayed on my bookshelf. Honestly, bookends are one of the few bookish items I’ve always wanted to have so when I heard there’d be A SET in @owlcrate’s June box, I knew I must get my hands on it. Much to my surprise, the overall design and texture of the bookends far exceed my expectation and I love them so, so much!😍😍 . What’s more, I think the magical lamp post is a genius idea for bookends since it looks fantastic on the bookshelf. All in all, 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 stars for this piece of wonder. . P.S. Thanks to those who’re concerned about my health. Gastroenteritis is not fun and I truly appreciate all of your comforting messages.
