"Entirely bewitching but so odd"
I made this, not only for the artistic aspect of it that pleases me, but also because of the symbol of white and red butterfly.
To start with, red butterfly are believed to be symbol of rebirth and passion. The death of Elizabeth never felt like a death to me. She was peaceful in it, leaning into it, believe that she was finally going to be in a place where people love her for HER, not just her beauty. Passion is the best way to describe Elizabeth, she burns with the flames of her ambitions, she is alive with love and strength that kept her one of the most alive character.
Then, red butterfly are often associated with witches or signs of bad omens in English and Irish culture. The fact that those misunderstood creature would find a refuge in Elizabeth, even in her death seemed obvious to me, odd creatures she has always attracted.
White butterflies are symbol of peace, angelic presence and changing of oneself. When Elizabeth dies, she is at peace with herself AND with the world. She looks at Adam, and that's her angelic presence, the one watching over her as she changes herself, liberating herself and leaving, but leaving more happily than she had ever lived.
White butterfly are also believed to carry people's dreams in some Native American culture. It felt appropriate to have them surround Elizabeth with dreams, dreams of her, of Adam, of William, dreams of people that she loves that could accompany her.
So all of those points made me include those specific butterfly in her picture, and yes I do know that some of those are moths, but they also have their symbol, misunderstood creature clinging to another misunderstood, odd being, giving her comfort of knowing she was never alone as she departs.
Anyway that was a long rant to explain things you guys probably don't care about, but she is so dear to me, I wanted to give her companions in her deaths that would understand her odd nature better than anyone and would make her dying if not her life a little easier.
