This was yesterday. See how the wind was blowing all those leaves upside down so you can see the undersides of the leaves which are lighter colored? When he would see that happening my father used to say the trees were “praying for rain”. I guess it’s just caused by a wind blowing from a different direction but anyway today it’s raining and forecast to rain all day. Well done, trees!

a time I corrected my mother

I was young, before I could read and I was playing in the backseat of the car as we were going.....somewhere. She was saying to whoever was in the passenger seat, ‘oh yes, sewickedthread is quite happy playing by herself.’

I piped up, ‘no, I would prefer playmates, but since I don’t have any*, I play by myself.’

*we lived in a fairly rural location and the closest** other children were 1) girl 10 months younger than me, 2) my older brother 3) (eventually) #1′s 6-years younger brother, & 4) the grandson who occasionally visited the house about a quarter mile up the road. 

**by road. There were some other kids via the fields but since I didn’t know where they were when I was 5, they might as well have not existed. There were also some older kids more than a half-mile up the road, but again, I was 5 and not allowed to go that far on my own.

Oddly solid memory:

Was doing a bad photoshop as a reply to an insane idea about toilet paper descending from the ceiling like the mic in a boxing ring

Why wouldn’t there also be the charmin bear announcing the rounds

An odd memory popped up of when I was young and asked adults questions and got a rude answer in return.

And I realized that after all these years the answer to “Does a bear shit in the woods” is actually NO

Sometimes I remember that out there somewhere is a video of my third grade playground, because one day this guy from like a news crew wanted to film the local kids and he told the ones that were there in the moment to fight with each other or something.

I came up later, not knowing what was going on, and, being big in general for my age, quickly became a target. Said situation ended when I basically knocked everyone off of me and escaped.

Somewhere there is a video - the same video - of my tiny-at-the-time cousin, stopping on the end of the slide and getting waylaid by couple kids that decided it would make a good video to slide down and get him.

Our playground was usually quiet. Like, other than normal kid antics, there wasn't much chaos. This dude showed up and turned usually well-behaved children into attention seeking heathens.

That day lives in infamy in my memory.

Like, who was the camera dude? Was he really with a news crew? Why did he want us to clobber each other?

What the actual heck?

Odd feelings are odd. I'm ready for them to leave so I can enjoy my day.
