Feeding cat food to carnivorous fish - good idea?
Now I don’t mean Meow Mix. Our cat eats Blue Buffalo, which is grain free and everything else is in an ideal proportion for cats as obligate carnivores. Now there may be arguments against this but consider - all of the higher quality brands of pelletized fish food (Hikari, Omega One, Xtreme Aquatic Foods, etc) seem to have a significant portion of wheat or some other grain flour. Now I know many of these fish need vegetable/plant matter in small amounts, but not wheat, and the Blue Buffalo has a small percentage of fruits and vegetables. I’m not saying this cat food is ideal for fish, but that it might be a little better than the fish food I’ve been buying them. (And even Blue Buffalo is much cheaper than the fish food when you look at proportions!) Anyways this was one of my more wacky ideas but my cichlids skip the fish food pellets while the cat food is still available and my alligator gar and clown knife fish LOVE it, as well as do my bichir.
