happy 3rd hrt anniversary to me :]
ik they're just like little grooves in his face but cyberverse wheeljack looks like he's rocking the prettiest eyelashes ever
finished watching beast wars today, i think it was really good on almost all fronts. i ended up being frustrated throughout with the way different maximals treated blackarachnia even after her redemption on and off while saying she's an equal in the team, like prodding for her having been a predacon and a spider sure but theres no reason for the maximals to be weird about her being a girl, and then with probably 90% of airazor's writing even though she was less directly insulted in dialogue than blackarachnia, which is upsetting. it comes close to having some of the best writing of all the tf media i've gone through so far, but misogyny can't and shouldn't be pushed aside for the sake of calling it such. i really can't think of anything that put me off otherwise except for like the beans episode but that's whatever. girl transformers deserve better writing in general, this just ended up being a fairly clear example of what not to do. i have some compositions in mind for fanart of the series but not sure when i'll get around to it. as for what comes next, i wanted to read skybound but it's much harder for me to find time to read during the semester than it is to slowly watch something, so rescue bots is next up.
i love southern u.s accent wheeljack can tf shows keep doing that. like i can count multiple different people from round here that behave exactly like him when it comes to making things, like "i've got this thing i'm putting together in a shed, i want a very specific use out of it. it'll probably end up working but if something exploded i wouldn't be surprised."
rumble and frenzy are like those gimmick toys that color change by temperature to me instead of trying to pick one for each
i don't think even artificially like ostaros that cybertronian protoforms can ever be a baby in the sense that organics have but i think the idea that they learn emotions through observing others instead of already having them but not being able to articulate it is interesting. it's like they're slowly installing senses instead of immediately having them all and dealing with the sensory overload. like maybe the almost blank naivety ostaros showed wasn't unique to him but was instead more noticeable because the isolation didn't let him learn them as fast as other protoforms
it took like a month and a half but i finished reading tf idw through a guide someone made and shared with me. my thoughts with spoilers below cut for anyone still getting through it.
i don't mind the bittersweet uncertainty of two lost light endings, like the one where the universe jump didn't work is incredibly sad, but that's ok i think i can sit with that.
rung, however... i have been inconsolable about rung no longer existing and not being remembered by anyone but a sliver of data by rewind in the jump failure ending and the newly forged bots looking just like him. i got spoiled before i had started reading that he was primus but it completely caught me off guard that he sacrificed himself in a physical and memorial sense.
he thought for the longest time that he was destined to fade into the background, and while for the other characters he technically did, to us as readers it feels like a chunk was hollowed out of everything that happened and i don't know quite how to move past that. i sincerely hope we see him in some future tf endeavor.
