ODETTE BAILEY

Odette has a slight wariness to any romantic feelings or any possibility of someone having interest in her. After what happened with Derek and the curse that was placed on her, she just doesn’t want to be too connected to anybody that could become something a person could exploit.

After becoming a swan, Odette has developed a fondness for birds. She owns a java sparrow named Puffin and a green parakeet named Jean-Bob. While the turtle that she found isn’t a bird, it reminded her of Speed and she took him in as well, naming the turtle after her dear friend.

There is a terrifying fear that the curse might come back one day. Odette has prepared herself just in case that happens and while she developed wonderful relationships as a swan, with her friends, she doesn’t necessarily want to go back to that state.

BIOGRAPHY

Odette was destined to become the future queen the moment she was born, deeply loved by her people and father the moment they saw her. Unfortunately her mother did not live long past her childbirth, and she was raised mostly by nannies when her father couldn’t raise her himself. It was always just the two of them for years, until one day when she was just a young child, she and her father went to spend the summer in another neighboring kingdom. She politely greeted Queen Uberta, but found herself getting annoyed with the queen’s son, Derek. Immediately, the two children were at odds with each other and would do anything, as well as everything, they could to drive one another insane. The plan between their parents was to see if Odette and Derek could fall in love then get married, thus uniting the two kingdoms. However, there was great reluctance to see each other, even as they got older. It wasn’t until the two were adults that when they saw each other they fell in love. After their first dance and kiss together, Derek announced to arrange plans to marry, stating he wanted to marry Odette due to her beauty. This upset her, making her ask him if there was anything else beyond her beauty that mattered to him. When Derek did not give a suitable answer, she rejected his proposal, refusing to back down on the grounds that she wanted to marry someone that could look beyond her looks.

On their way back to their kingdom, Odette and her father were attacked by an evil sorcerer, Rothbart, who mortally wounded the King as well as taking Odette to his lair. He put a spell on her that made her a swan by day except when there was a full moon and the light hit the lake. The spell could only be broken if the man she loved made an everlasting love for her. Despite Rothbart trying to persuade Odette to marry him, she refused to do anything with the evil sorcerer, determined that Derek would come and rescue her. With the help of the friends she made, they were able to trick the prince into coming by the lake and seeing her transform. The two of them had a brief reunion, and Odette explained how to break the spell to Derek. He told her to come to the ball tomorrow night and he would make the vow to everyone, breaking the spell and proving his love to her. Sadly, when Derek left, Rothbart appeared, reminding the princess that there was to be no full moon the next night, making her unable to transform. To further prevent Odette from reaching the prince, the sorcerer locked her up, though she was able to escape with the help of her friends, Puffin, Jean-Bob, and Speed. She reached the castle to try to warn Derek but found herself unable to get in. Instead, she saw a doppelganger of herself by Derek’s side and as he made the everlasting vow to the fake Odette, the real one began to feel her life drain away from her. She reached the lake just in time to transform, extremely weak. As Derek approached her, Odette told him that she loved him before closing her eyes.

Opening her eyes to find herself in a new world, Odette struggled to understand what happened. Was she under a new curse? Her human form remained the same, no more swan, but she couldn't find Derek or her friends anywhere in Fableton. Realizing that this might possibly be a second chance, she decided to seize the opportunity to learn more about the world and became involved with city hall, working on getting a job there. When it became apparent there was no way to go back to her own world, Odette threw herself into adapting to the life here, working constantly until she became the assistant to the mayor of Fableton. Her possible life with Derek and becoming queen of her people was now just a distant memory. She forced herself to accept that she would no longer see any of them, making her own personal vow to be careful of who she gives her heart to this second go round. Since all she has known is learning how to rule and guide people, Odette eventually wants to reach the goal of actually becoming part of the town council. Ultimately she wants to help others that are like her, who have found their way into this new world with no one else or have been granted a second chance at life.

CONNECTIONS

Piers Humperdinck: The two of them have crossed paths and, while Odette doesn’t really care for the man, she knows that watching him would give her some lessons in how to be more of a politician in this world and less of a princess out of her element.

Hades Drakos: Odette hasn’t been silent about her interest in being on the council and going beyond what her job is now. She is aware that Hades is the one that started the council and, while they might have different motivations, she prefers to talk to him about the possibility of getting on the council.

Florian Quillan: She has heard of Florian but has yet to actually approach him. She is sure that he is nice and polite compared to some people that show up in City Hall.
