it seems like there's always a dichotomy between palamedes and odysseus where palamedes was the "good smart" (curiosity, discovery, invention, the arts, etc.) and odysseus as the "bad smart" (deceptive, trickery, cunning, etc.) because they both had having rivalling / equal intelligence, but after he kills palamedes he goes from "bad smart" to "only smart they (the achaeans) have". it's probably just the authors glazing palamedes and hating odysseus, but i like to think that's cool regardless.

Two things about the Odysseus/Palamedes toxic yaoi…

In the versions where Diomedes helped Odysseus kill Palamedes, did Palamedes think they were going to have a threesome?

I’m just imagining Palamedes‘ utter heartbreak in the version where Odysseus frames him for treason and the Greek army stones him to death. He thought they had something special!

1. I hadn’t considered Diomedes getting involved but now that you mention it, it’s very fun. I imagine it’d be a very swift pipeline from “oh! A rival approaches! 😡” To “we all have two hands 😌”.

2. Oh absolutely. “It’s nothing personal,” said lying Odysseus. “I wish it was,” answered Palamedes. (Imagining he has the worlds saddest little forehead crease while getting betrayed btw)
