Aboriginal X-Ray Art doesn’t just show animals and ancestral beings from the outside — it reveals their internal organs, bones, spirit, and life force. Fish, turtles, kangaroos, Mimih spirits, and powerful ancestral beings are painted as if the viewer can see beneath the skin itself.
This extraordinary tradition evolved from ancient Arnhem Land rock art into bark painting using natural ochres and eucalyptus bark, creating one of the world’s great continuous artistic traditions.
Featuring artists including Lofty Nadjamerrek, Dick Murrumurru, Yirawala and John Mawurndjul.
