So I went to see my parents and family this past weekend for like, a giant wedding. Brought the fiance (they all fucking love her, so I imagine they will be pleased when we officially announce that we are engaged) and we had a blast.
But people started asking me about jobs and stuff, and I answered, and then they started asking me what I want to use my paychecks for. And I guess I was just... Struck by how different my priorities are than those of my older relatives?
Like, some of them were suggesting saving up for a car, doing something “practical” and maybe thinking about saving for kids and like... I want to spend my paycheck on rent, food, a cat, and some plants. MAYBE splurge and start collecting some Pokemon cards every now and again. I’m not even thinking about a car or anything like that, certainly not thinking about kids. My cousins who are closer to my age all get it but like... IDK my “dream house” is frankly the apartment I am living in now. It’s got more than one room.
IDK, just made me think about how for me, and I’m sure for quite a few people my age, our priorities and desires when it comes to money and houses and stuff are very different than those our parents had when they were our age.
