Chapter 2: The Visit

*Three months later*

Thankfully, however, the US Maritime had a training facility set up in Seattle, which made it more convenient for him to visit when he could. What she didn’t anticipate though was that he would be away for the entire training period. She supposed she figured it’d be different being that the maritime wasn’t military but alas! She figured wrong! They may not be the military, but they still valued structure and discipline just as much. The worst part wasn’t even not having him in bed with her at night, it was how quickly he had to get back after the few times he was allowed to visit for a nice dinner! She hated it so much! She already missed him terribly and if she missed him this much, she didn’t want to think about how dreadful it would actually be when he was finally sent off to sea.

She refused to think about that right now though. Instead of dwelling on him eventually leaving, she forced herself to redirect her focus on the now, and tonight, her mother had invited her over for a nice dinner and evening. The offer alone lifted her spirits but they were lifted twice as much when she was told that Grady, her ‘little’ brother, would be there too. She always enjoyed spending time with him; even more now that he was busy with his university studies. Being with her family would definitely help take her mind off Don.

It would be a good evening.

Hi Steph, Sorry to bother u, but I've tried in vain to find this fic. It starts with John reluctantly attending a work/industry party at a hotel with an Original female character. The OFC is there to network & doesn't feature in the story that much. John isn't enjoying himself until he spies Sherlock (who he doesn't know) by a fake potted planet. They eventually have sex in Sherlock's hotel room. John also has to make a speech at this party. I think John's a journalist in this fic. Please help!

WIP Wednesday: NOT Edition

The probability of Estelle receiving a letter with the other girls was unlikely. Improbable even. There was a time when those numbers came easily to her. When she had taught the legion of young girls at Cradock High, she had been sure of her equations and formulas, just as she was sure in the frequency of the letters. But this formula wasn’t working. This equation wasn’t adding up, no matter what way she tried. 

Unreciprocated pining + increasing tension with male penpal = months between letters.

If she had been like her pupils, young and immature, she might have cried about it. They had often shed tears of frustration over the ins and outs of algebraic expression. But Estelle wasn’t a child. She wasn’t young and immature. Maybe she had been when she met him. When the first letters were sent.

I’m honestly curious as to why people on here hate on original character pairing in fics. Like...why? Why don’t these characters who are well thought of, detailed in ways that could tie in to their backstory or have something tie in later always overlooked and frown upon? Is it because whoever is reading it can’t put themselves in the OC’s shoes in general? Can’t relate?

I legitimately had someone tell me they couldn’t “connect” or truly get into my OFC Ana Rios in Delicate Stages for the sheer fact that she’s Puerto Rican.....um, what? Not even anything else, and truly liking the character, they couldn’t see past the character being Hispanic.

Is that why? Because some people read a character that isn’t meant to be them and they deem the fic and character unworthy? You can also read any story/fic and put yourself as that character and well? Isn’t that what’s reading it about? Idk. It’s late and I’m rambling at this point
