Pinterest finds for my nurses idea. Up top, from front to back, Ava Mathers, Evelyn Hoyt, and Charlotte Thorton. They went through the Red Cross nursing training together and managed to get stationed together at Thorpe Abbotts.
Ava and Charlotte are small town girls from different states. Evelyn's from Chicago and a society girl. They're all about 22.
Charlotte likes being small town. She's a tiny thing and gets assumed to be easy to trick or passive because she's so nice, but she's stuck a hypodermic in a man's shoulder once, and she'll do it again if needed.
Ava's got some shitty small town gossip baggage and doesn't want to ever end up in a town like where she grew up. Joining up with the Red Cross was the first step in getting away while also getting trained up for a good job she can get in a city.
Ava and Evelyn became friends when Ava just flat-out asked Evelyn to teach her how to be fancier. They befriended Charlotte because they got teamed up in study group, and she's a tiny firecracker twice as smart as anyone else. Evelyn is the one I know the least about so far. Still waiting to figure her out fully.
Bottom photo is Minnie Green, Head Nurse at Thorpe Abbott's. 35 and never married. Nebraska farm girl who's still close to her family. Lots of siblings. Loves her work and loves her girls. Requires a certain amount of propriety on the clock but doesn't much care off it. There's a reason she and Harding understand each other from the get go.
About 15k into Chapter 29 of Progression, so I figured I would share another scene as an apology for my tardiness. Definitely going to be a long chapter, unless I split it. Trying not to do that though.

I really love reading things about your OCs. It's clear that you've put a lot of love into them and how much they mean to you. There's always a brightness that appears when you write about them and it's really lovely to see 🥰 Just curious - do you create your OCs based on aspects of yourself?
Bless you for asking, dear ~ I'm so glad you see something lovely about them! And yes, yes I do put a little of myself in each of them. Mayhap, my best qualitiest idealized...for they do not bear the scars this life has given me, so it's far easier for them to be kind, compassionate, and understanding ~ though their capacity for love is all my own. In their cases, they are very lucky because they've found someone to give their love to. Most of them were already passionate women before they meet the man they fall in love with. If that makes me a one-trick pony, and them, 'Mary Sue's', I'm happy in the place I've found. As Stephen King famously advised for writers just starting out, 'write what you know'. Well, I know my heart, and each of my OCs bear some part of it.
There are differences, of course, and I try to give them all some real world flaws. Beauty is clumsy
and judges rashly at times, and is prone to talk too much. Teyla is timid, but when she loves it makes her brave. Hope, as an Artist, tends to be a dreamer and is terribly stubborn. Fanny is the most practical among them, because she's had her heart (and nearly her spirit) broken. But in all cases, they are truer to themselves than I've ever been able to be.
And for the most part, giving someone unconditional love (especially someone who believes he doesn't deserve it) is a healing that they long to share.
(I better stop now, because I really could go on & on😉)
