             for once, she couldn't read his expression. she wasn't sure if it was the god    already playing with her mind, fuzzing the edges of everything related to this last    summer, or just if her da was being particularly opaque.                         to be honest, she wasn't sure how it would work; this forgetting. she'd    chosen to go back home, for a multitude of reasons, but she had needed to leave     the isles behind her. the god had offered a solution: forgetfulness. to erase the     memory of all the people she'd met, all she'd done. it hadn't been an easy choice,    but what place did she really have here ?  what right ?                  the last sliver of the isles disappeared off in the distance and aly turned to    her da as they leaned on the railing of the ship. could she feel things slipping away,    or was that just her imagination ?                   ' it will be okay, da, '  she reassured him; or was it herself she was                                reassuring.                             ' it will be okay,' she repeated, pressing her lips to his cheek.
