Pleads Guilty, Is Remanded for Sentence Monday
----
Charles O'Reilly pleaded guilty to housebreaking before Judge James Parker, in county criminal court today, and also admitted illegal possession of a rifle, a loaded automatic pistol, a knuckle-duster. and a long-bladed knife. He was remanded to Monday for sentence, Formerly an employee of a Dundas St. West moving firm, accused last May 13 broke into the firm's warehouse, wrecked a safe, stole a motor truck wherewith to remove the safe, and stole a number of gasoline ration books. the court was told. He broke into the place again on June 7, and stole $100, gasoline coupons, and a rifle belonging to James Seebrooke, in storage at the warehouse, it was stated.
Detective-Sergt. Hector Barber, of the city police, said the truck was recovered on Deer Park Cres. some hours after it had been stolen. The wrecked safe was reported aboard.
In a surprise visit that started a two-day blitz of Western allies, the Ukrainian president implored Britain to provide planes he said would represent “wings of freedom.’’
So far, the British government has resisted Ukraine’s request, as has the United States and other NATO countries, fearing that combat aircraft could escalate confrontation with Russia.
Why are we still talking about fear of escalation? We want to escalate this war. The thing most to be feared is what will happen if we do not.
Putin has already indicated he will escalate this war as far as he is able, in order to win. The only limits on Putin’s escalation are supplies of all kinds, ammunition, ordnance, and soldiers. He will use whatever he can get his hands on to defeat Ukraine.
Ah, you say, he has his hands on tactical nuclear weapons, and he has not used them. What are his reasons? Do we fear that our efforts to help Ukraine could provoke him to use such weapons. Is that what fear of escalation actually means: fear of nuclear war?
Believe me, we have no control over Putin’s strategy, the types of weapons he uses, his means of escalation, or any other element of his war fighting efforts. For us to withhold help from Ukraine is to invite Putin to occupy the country, or portions of it, for as long as he can. Is that the outcome we want? More to the point, is that the outcome we will accept, because we wanted to play it safe?
War is not safe. War in Ukraine is murderous for Ukrainians, but it is also a threat to freedom in all of Eastern Europe. Russia does not have to conquer the Baltics, or Belarus, or Slovakia to expand its influence and diminish freedom. A victory in Ukraine would enable Russia to intimidate governments throughout the region. Do not try to escape our orbit, or we will bring you down. We already saw unspoken threats when Germany had to find alternate supplies of fuel to supply heat this winter.
I said above we want to escalate this war. I did not mean a transition from conventional to nuclear war. I meant that Ukraine needs to use offensive weapons to prevent Russia from deploying war making capabilities within its borders. To use Donbas as an example: Ukraine ought to attack and destroy every element of Russia’s supply operations in Russia. Do not wait until supplies reach troops in Bakhmut. Destroy - or threaten to destroy - Russia’s supply network outside Ukraine’s borders.
Ukraine’s military could accomplish this task, if it received required weapons from its allies, and broad-based permission to use these weapons beyond Ukraine’s borders. If Russia wins this war because NATO denied these weapons, and denied this permission, NATO will regret its play-it-safe decisions. If will find that the world after a Ukrainian defeat is far more dangerous than they could have imagined while the alliance dithered over fears of escalation.
Praying in the Spirit Using the Word of God for Week #15
Entry 015 Praying for Strength to Use our Offensive Weapons Against Satan
There are times we have to defend ourselves against the fiery darts of the Devil by putting on the whole armor of God. But sometimes we have use offensive strategies because Satan has already stolen so much from us. We have to go after him with a vengeance and without fear to recover it all. The Kingdom of heaven suffers violence and the violent takes it by force. Prayer is a spiritual weapon of warfare against the kingdom of darkness. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high place. Our offensive weapons are the word of God, the name of Jesus, and the blood of Jesus. We have to go to the enemy’s camp and take back what he has stolen from us using these offensive weapons. For Satan comes only to steal, kill and destroy; but Jesus came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. The Devil wants to steal our joy, kill our faith, and destroy our hope. He tries to steals our joy by using people and circumstances to make us sad. He attempts to kill our faith in God by trying to convince us to not wait on God, and to rely on our own strength and abilities so that we cannot please Him. For he knows without faith it is impossible to please God. The Devil tries to destroy our hope by causing us to think negatively about our lives, our present situations, and our future, as to influence how we live. He knows that right thinking produces right living. The good thing is that we do not have to fight him in our own strength. All we have to do is stand, and having done all, stand in the liberty wherewith Christ have made us free. We can stand on the word of God, the name of Jesus, and on the blood of Jesus. Satan is a defeated foe. Jesus’ death on the cross empowered Him to snatch the keys of death, hell and the grave from Satan. All we have to do is accept the authority God has given us, use it against the Devil, and walk in it daily. The only way we can do that is to know who we are in Christ. Our identity as an empowered, beloved child of God must be the guiding force behind everything we do and believe. When we pray for divine strength, we can stand still and see the salvation of the Lord; He will wage war on the enemy. The battle is not our, it is the Lord’s. He has already fought the battle for us and won.
