it’s after the caroling has completed and the refreshments have started to be distributed when the woman approaches you. she must have been beautiful in her youth, but now wisps of silver can be seen through her hair and lines of age show on her face. her eyes are warm and her smile is genuine as she approaches.
“hi there,” she hands you a cup of cocoa and keeps another for herself as she makes her introduction. “i’m lim hyomin, i’m actually a talent scout for sr media. i came here today with my daughter and granddaughters, off duty, but minah thinks you have a lovely voice for caroling and i agree,” she glances back to a mother with two little girls, the smaller of who shyly buries her face in her mother’s leg as the other two wave a brief greeting.
“i don’t know if you’ve ever thought about becoming a singer, but sr media is holding auditions after the holidays. i promised my girls i wouldn’t work today, but they made a little exception for me to give you this,” she hands you her business card. sure enough, lim hyomin and her contact info is printed there in neat little letters alongside the sr media logo.
the woman smiles at you again. “please, take your time and enjoy the holidays with your family. send me a text or email and i’ll send you all of the information for our next auditions. i can’t wait until the others hear your voice.” with that, the woman takes her leave, waving to you once more as she rejoins her family and the festivities.
after he ducks away to go peruse the breakfast options, he’s stopped by a lady– and she has hot cocoa. sweet! he blinks at her, a smile crossing his face as he says a bright hello to her, reaching to take the drink carefully. blinking, he stares dumbly at her for a moment, wide-eyed and in minor disbelief at what she’s saying. he lets out a nervous laugh, grin plastered (more like frozen) to his face as he darts his stare between her, her family, then back to her. what the hell is happening right now? sr media?
she’s nice though. friendly, and he can’t help but continue to beam and say a happy thanks. he grabs the business card she hands him, eyeing it curiously, before he returns his attention back to her. takes in her response and lets out a weak laugh, a little awkward with the compliment. especially from a supposed talent scout? while he was caroling? that’s…kinda embarrassing. he was really belting out there– and he knows that couldn’t have sounded that great. maybe she’s just being nice and trying to meet quota.
he says thanks and a sweet goodbye though, because she’s nice and pretty and reminds him a little of his mom. he makes sure to wiggle his fingers at her children in goodbye, grinning toothily at them as they leave.
