Something had entered Story's office. It was looking for code. Its terminals scanned the office thoroughly for invasive code and found one.
It was looking for Dark.

Dark was still struggling with the bird, unsure what to do with it. They couldn't exactly talk to it and explain themself without their hands, so they just had decided to put it in a box.
They weren't aware of what had found them.
Office Dark felt themself pulled from their former position, only for the previous warmth and comfort to be replaced by cold and stiff ground under their body.
A crooning voice above them further woke them.. not the voice of any previously hostile individual but one that sounded terribly inebriated.
"Hiiiiiiiii sweetie~ "
They didn't fully process the voice at first, still groggy from such a long nap. It took one, two, three blinks for them to process they were awake. They'd never slept so long before.
They looked up at whatever had woken them, not fully thinking yet.
It didn't take long before Story came down to find her stray employee.
"Dark. What happened here-?"
Her voice is tense and annoyed, but none of it is directed at them for once.. More worry towards the machine sitting on the floor, utterly shattered.

They jumped slightly, obviously still having the initial reflex to panic, before they wrapped their arms around themself, forcing themself to breathe and explain.
"I think he fell. I was in the other room when it happened... I came in and they were already on the floor. I didn't... know what to do... so I just was waiting here for someone to help..." They rubbed their arm awkwardly, still seeming nervous that they'd done something wrong, even though they hadn't really done any harm. They looked over to Printer, before pointing to the stairs. "He fell from up there, probably. I dunno what broke, but I stepped on a bunch of glass... I couldn't really get anyone without hurting myself."
Something poked Dark in the side, waking them from their stupor. "Hello? I am looking for something deadly, presumed innocent. " (@sovereignsecurity)
Dark sleepily looked up, still looking exhausted. Yawning, they rubbed their eyes, before pulling their hands away to sign. "Who are you? Where did Printer and Story go...?"
@thestoryisneverastory "Yeah no- fair-" She nodded and relented on that part before the narrative took over again. "Hmph! Like you would know anything about beings such as us!" "If my Story had been willing to do such a thing she would not have tried to kill me."
Dark wanted to scream at the Narrative, but their voicelessness forced them to think about what they were saying, so they took a breath.
"Then why do you think she'd just lie down and let you take over? Seriously? Maybe she thought that because clearly, you aren't good at listening. Like, come on, you're no better than her at this point."
An idea lit up in their mind, and they made an impassive shrug.
"Oh well... guess you're just a bad narrator. If you had any faith in the thing you created, maybe you'd listen! But clearly you must have been an awful, AWFUL writer. Even that employee of yours must have hated every second."
If they were lucky, they'd get the two off their back. If not, well... it was worth it. A calculated risk.
M! A dark is kitten NOW!!!!!!!
"I LIKE YOUR THINKING."
Somewhere in the office, Dark has been sleeping soundly, and they open their eyes slightly, feeling dizzy and sleepy.
Something feels weird. They feel smaller... and fluffier.
They uncurl their tail from around themself, mouth opening in a wide yawn, before they shakily sat up, puzzled.
"...mya?"

Dark bit their tongue, wincing as though the words physically wounded them, and folding their tail under their legs.
"...awful. I wasn't even doing it to 'protect' anyone at first-- not even Kain. It was just another reason to poke at her flaws and enjoy her reactions."
They hesitated, tugging on their scarf for a moment.
"Was I made to hurt people? Is that it?"
Well, why dontcha take a peep inside? See if i'm telling the truth or not~
"I can't... I don't know how to see my own code." They turn away from you. "Go bother Ms. Story about it and maybe you'll get whatever it is you want..."
