Darling, Minotaur, Cartographer? Also, Testimonials? (we could almost make that first one read like a sentence..)
Those first three do read like a sentence - or a title! I think “My Darling Minotaur Cartographer” would be an excellent title for a poem, mind if I use it?
Darling: Introduce us to two of your characters?
Kass Yaeger. Tall, stocky, broad-shouldered, with warm brown eyes and sandy hair and a beard and a big toothy grin. White. Saxophone player. He was born in the late ‘60s, in New England, the son of older German immigrants. He was a good student and a dutiful son until he got into punk, ska, and new wave - and started smoking weed. He dropped out of college, moved to NYC, met a girl at CBGB, and moved in with her. He loved her very much, but she was addicted to heroin and was also emotionally manipulative, and also, weirdly obsessed with snakes. Eventually she left him, and all she left behind was one of her snakes. When dealing with the emotional aftermath of his girlfriend leaving, he started hanging out at Coney Island a lot. One day, he saw an ad for a traveling sideshow that was being formed, and called the number provided on the poster. “I’ve got a snake and a saxophone,” he said, “does anyone need a snake charmer?”
Ximena Olejniczak. Short, curvy, pale yellow-green eyes, full lips, a snaggle-tooth. Mixed-race (Xicanx and white; Mexican mom, Polish dad). Nonbinary/genderfluid, xe/xem/xyr/xyrs pronouns. Xe swears xyr not a Manic Pixie Dream Queer, but xe kind of is. Xe wears things like stocking caps, and hoodies and jeans and Chucks, but then wears, like, a sparkly tulle skirt over the jeans. Xe does things like sit on the beach playing ‘90s alternative rock songs on xyr ukulele, even on cold days in March. Xe plays the fucking ukulele. Xe doesn’t drink alcohol, but drinks way too much coffee. Works as a barista. Xyr favorite band is Archers of Loaf, and xyr favorite song is “Web in Front.” Xe loves that song to the point of it being a bit weird.
