STEDE'S FLAG MEANS ... BLACKBONNET???
i've been thinking about blackbeard's modded Heartbreak Flag™️ (which history tells us was probably not edward teach's real flag but WHO CARES) and the flag design that's usually attributed to stede bonnet (see above). and how maybe the reason that stede's historical flag hasn't come into play in the show yet — and why the revenge is flying different flags made by everyone on the crew as their first arts-and-crafts project under stede's leadership — is because stede's historical flag will become THE BLACKBONNET FLAG once stede and ed have reunited and fixed their shit and started co-captaining again.
i mean look at it! it takes elements from blackbeard's flag plus classic pirate imagery and puts it all together in what i'd argue is a meaningful order: THE DAGGER, symbolizing the violence of the past (that ed and stede ultimately decide to reject?); THE SKULL, symbolizing the chosen career of piracy that brought them together and that unites their crews; and THE HEART, intact, no longer pierced and bleeding, placed furthest to the right and forward into the future (i.e., love conquers all). the skull is underlined for effect with a femur because why not — piracy is still serious business (i'm sure black pete had some influence over that design decision lol).
what do you guys think?!
