God when I first noticed that Stede doesnt wear ANY of that beige off-white color at all anymore since he became a pirate again it crushed me the innocence really is fully gone and its everything Stede wanted to be.

And then you have Ed. Eddie boy. Dressed in that beige potato sack throwing out all his leathers and dark colors in exchange for choosing the beige, the innocence. Abandoning Stede while Stede is in these saturated colors (not wearing black yet mind you) because he fears that Stede is turning into blackbeard, wants to be blackbeard, and that Ed has maybe ruined him forever and the innocence that was once there and UGH

Meanwhile Stede probably feels like he's meeting Ed in the middle. Tbh it doesnt feel like Stede is really becomibg the same pirate blackbeard was at all! He's just surviving and thriving where his life is. But Ed doesn't want to be anywhere near the blackbeard, pirate, dark clothes and crime life, he wants the innocence and as such can't meet Stede in the middle.

And then Stede calls him a coward and sure maybe Ed is afraid but damn if you went through what he did as Blackbeard wouldn't you be?? how can the middle between blackbeardness and innocence be safer than just plain innocence??

Costume design on this show is so subtle but incredible ESPECIALLY this season i fuckibg love it but also my soul eaches wuth deep deep pain for these two

I know I’m always talking about Ed saying “How about we avoid near-death situations” but that’s exactly what I wanted for them after season 1: realizing they want to live long and they need to stop being pirates for that to happen.

thinking of how Izzy said "he left you, didn't he?" and then "i think you two are good for each other" Thinking of how Izzy has known Ed for years, Ed's been like this for a long time, Izzy's just used to it. Thinking of Fang's retelling of the "Dizzy Izzy" story. and how "Captain left Izzy in charge during a storm"

Izzy doesn't seem surprised Ed left, not even cocky abt it. He brings up getting shot in the leg again and says "He's a complicated man."

How often has Ed left Izzy just to come right back? How likely is it that, had the siege not taken place, Ed would have come back and declared fishing was boring and maybe even apologized?
