Der Kindertod - Allison/Stiles/Matt
They all had the same weird feeling...this is not a normal flu.
Allison: Flashes of a nightmare kept passing under Allison’s closed eyelids, far too vivid for the girl’s liking. It wasn’t often that she remembered her dreams -- in fact, she couldn’t remember the last time she had. But this one was something else entirely, something taken from the type of horror film that Allison actively avoided. She’d have avoided this one if she could, a part of her subconscious already begging her to wake up. There wouldn’t be a happy ending to this dream, not when the child before her kept screaming and pointing towards an empty space, horror etched into his features. It was nothing short of unsettling, the continued screaming at nothing. The instinct to comfort the child she’d met earlier that day, a sweetheart who had been handling his sickness better than most of the others, was overwhelming To see him so horrified created a sick feeling in Allison’s stomach, something like foreboding filling her. As she attempted to move closer to him, she was met with resistance at her side. It was as if something solid were blocking her way despite the fact that she could see nothing before her. For one terrifying second, Allison thought she might have been losing her mind. But upon blinking, she found that the mass before her had suddenly become visible. A glance at the creature’s face and Allison was sitting straight up in bed, heart pounding loudly in her chest. “ Fuck, ” she gasped out, holding a hand against her chest as though she could physically still her heart for a moment. Glancing to the bed beside her, Allison leaned forward a bit, trying to shake the railing. “ Hey...wake up. I need you to wake up. ”
Matt: Matt turned from one side to the other. His dreams were all over the place and scaring the hell out of him. He wasn't sure if it was just because of his fever. It probably was. One image kept on coming back though. The sweet boy he had been talking to today. He had rambled about a monster, the fear visible in his eyes and Matt had tried to comfort him as much as he could. He was afraid it had not been enough, but it was the best he could do. If there had been a way to chase the monster the boy was talking about away, he would have loved to do it, but he was afraid that it was nothing but a feverish nightmare. He was actually happy that Allison, in the bed next to him, was waking him up, although he had no idea why. "Yeah? What's wrong?" He tried to sit up and noticed that he was already feeling a little better than he had felt before he had fallen asleep.
Allison: The dream was rapidly slipping through Allison’s fingertips, what had been crystal clear images a second ago fading into something blurry. Frustration bloomed in her, evident in the lines that showed in her face as her brow furrowed. After a moment, all that remained from the dream of the night before was the terror she’d felt and the stricken face of the child. As it was, she felt as though something was wrong, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. Brushing her hair out of her face, Allison’s fingers tangled in the dark wisps. “Something isn’t right...” She murmured, gaze darting to Matt then towards the door. “I think --- I think there’s more going on here with this sickness of ours. But I can’t be sure, I need -- Do you remember the kids we met yesterday? Kevin? Do you remember what floor he was on? I just -- I need to make sure he’s okay.”
Matt: Matt frowned his eyebrows when Allison mentioned Kevin. She couldn't really make sense of what she was saying, why she was waking him up exactly, but he had been worried about the boy too. He had a pretty damn scare drawing and Matt couldn't forget the fear in his bright eyes. "Yeah, I guess I can remember..." He rubbed his temples and tried to focus. His mind was still a little blurry and his own dreams were still haunting him. "But I'm not sure if we're allowed to go there right now." He looked around. The entire hall seemed empty and Matt sighed. "I guess it was the second floor, right?" He shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not sure..." He swallowed and wondered where that weird feeling of Allison had come from. Maybe even more important, he was kinda sharing the feeling.
Allison: The continued racing of her heart had Allison on edge. Her instincts usually never led her wrong, and for her to be feeling so worried over someone after the dream she’d just had -- it was enough to make her panic. Keeping her expression blank, Allison did her best to nod calmy, careful to avoid throwing the blankets off of her and bolting out the door the way she wanted to. She couldn’t explain where this fear had come from, but it wasn’t letting go. Slipping off the bed, Allison felt a heavy feeling settle in her gut, one that was nearly enough to make her crawl back into bed. Instead, she began moving closer to the door. Turning back towards Matt, Allison hesitated. “ I think maybe you should come with me...Something tells me we need to stay together.”
Matt: Matt raised his eyes when he watched Allison slipping out of her bed. She was really determined to do this right now and he wondered what had happened to make her this afraid all of a sudden. He had to fight the urge to moan when he watched how she was standing up, walking towards the door. Even thinking about getting up made him tired, especially since he usually needed coffee to actually function. "You're really afraid, are you?" He throw the blankets off him and carefully sat down in his bed taking a few deep breaths before he finally stood up. Although he didn't feel as stable as he should feel, he already felt a lot better than he had felt at work. He had managed to keep himself up there, for a moment at least, maybe he'd manage to reach the boy without falling too. "Yeah, did you really think I was gonna let you go alone there?"
Allison: Despite the kindness that Matt exuded, Allison felt a twinge of annoyance flash through her. Her fears were something she abhorred, a part of her she wished she could carve out and abandon. Knowing that the fear she was feeling was evident only served to frustrate her, and she recalled the time she'd spoken with Kate, insisted that she despised her fears and feeling weak more than anything. The memory alone put a sour taste in her mouth. " I'd just rather not come back to find you in a state worse than you're in now. I've just got a bad feeling about all of this." She responded, already turning back towards the door despite the dizziness the action brought with it. Perhaps wandering the halls of the hospital while sick wasn't the best idea, and Allison knew they also risked being stopped by a nurse along the way, but the urge to ensure Kevin's safety was stronger than the warning signs. Gritting her teeth, Allison pulled the door open.
Matt: Matt nodded and didn't say anything about it anymore. Her fear was starting to scare him too and he didn't want that to get any worse. He wasn't sure what she was gonna check, but if she jumped out of her bed right in the middle of the night for it, it must be something important. For a moment he held himself, leaning against the door. Then he took a deep breath and gathered all the energy in his body he could find. "Let's just do this, okay?" He nodded towards her, trying to make his voice sound as calmly as he could. He was far from calm. His heart was racing in his chest and it was hard to say which part was because of the illness and which part was because of anything else. When Allison opened the door, he carefully followed. "So, if we're gonna do this sneaky, do you think we should avoid the elevator?"
Allison: Squaring her shoulders as she stepped out into the hallway, Allison nodded in agreement. While taking the stairs wasn’t first on her list of things she wanted to do, she figured it was necessary. Hesitant footsteps led them down the hallway, tension in the line of her shoulders as she fought to hear anyone around them. It didn’t take them very long to reach their first destination, somewhere Allison had been headed before even realizing it. The door to Stiles’ room was shut before them, and Allison didn’t bother to knock before pushing it open. From where she stood, she could see his sleeping form as well as the empty bed beside him, something that had her breathing a small sigh of relief. Creeping quietly into the room, Allison leaned over to gently shake Stiles awake. “ Stiles...Stiles, wake up. ”
Stiles: Whoever thought the hospital was a place for rest was a liar. The constant interruption that the nurses gave by poking and prodding at him at all hours made it quite difficult for him to even think of sleeping. But, there was also the general anxiety of being in the hospital to begin with. It was a place that brought back too many horrible memories. However, those things hadn't interrupted his sleep as much as the strange dreams that he had been having. Images of children being afraid of a monster seemed to plague him. Yet, despite all this, Stiles managed to allow himself to relax a little and doze off to sleep. It wasn't too long however before he felt someone shaking him. He, at first, let out a groan in protest not wanting to be disturbed from his sleep. The shaking continued, however, causing him to open his eyes and look sleepily up into a pair of familiar dark eyes. "What's going on?" He questioned, stifling a yawn. It was then that he noticed Matt and rose a brow in question. "What are you both doing here?"
Matt: Matt followed Allison into the room. It was good thing that Stiles had a room of his own. They couldn't have risked waking up even more people than they were probably waking up already. He watched how Stiles reacted like he had reacted when Allison had woken him up and he leaned against one of the walls, making sure he wouldn't fall down before they would reach the second floor, before they would reach Kevin. "Allison has a bad feeling." Matt shrugged his shoulders and nodded. "And I kinda have it too, so we're gonna check on Kevin, that boy we've talked to today." He let out a sigh and realized that talking already took a lot of energy. He was not exactly looking forward the stairs they had to walk down.
Allison: Allison felt a touch of remorse as Stiles began to stir, knowing full well how difficult it was to get a good night’s sleep in the hospital. The noise of protest he released had her wincing in sympathy, but she wouldn’t have been here if it wasn’t important. Despite that, she already felt childish about having woken them both up. If her dream ended up being only that, she’d have done so for nothing. Setting her bottom lip between her teeth, Allison shrugged a shoulder after Matt finished speaking. “ I had a nightmare about him. I can’t really explain it, but I just know something’s wrong, and I know it has to do with him. I wouldn’t have woken you up if it wasn’t important...”
Stiles: At their words, he slowly began to rise up in the bed with full attention placed on them. He honestly didn't know if it was a relief that they had had the same dreams or not. If they were all having the same dreams, then something was definitely up with this so-called "flu". He had expected as much, of course, even before this illness had landed him in the hospital. "I... get that feeling too," He said. Stiles ran a shaky hand through his hair before continuing his thoughts. "I had suspected that it was something strange to start with. It's likely, but it is strange that so many children have died of the flu especially after being hospitalized," He said, alluding somewhat to his thoughts from before that the probability of so many children deaths weren't all that likely in this modern age. He then sighed, "But.. even more of a sign, I remember bits and pieces of some kid being afraid of a monster from my dreams too."
Matt: Matt nodded, already feeling how his legs started trembling. He wasn't sure how long he would be able to keep himself up, but he did remember what had happened the last time it went wrong, and he didn't wanna risk that right now. "Yeah, let's just go to check on him, okay?" Matt felt the fear running through his veins, but if they were all three having that same feeling, it probably meant there was something really wrong. "I've asked Lydia and Bonnie to check if something had happened. Do you think we should ask them if they found anything yet?" His voice was trembling a little bit, while he checked the hallway to see if everything was clear. He started walking gesturing the others to follow him. He wasn't sure how long it would be until the next round of the nurse, but he didn't want to risk having to wait for her to be done on this floor.
Allison: Allison's gaze snapped towards Stiles as soon as he mentioned having seen the monster, skin crawling as the distorted image from her dream floated just out of reach. The confirmation she received that both of the others felt as she did eased the worry that she was merely overreacting, but did nothing to help the overall panic she felt. " Let's give them until morning. I don't know how fast they'd be able to figure something out. " Allison whispered back, following Matt out of the room and back towards the stairs. The floor was unbearably silent, and Allison found herself wishing it were day instead of night. A foolish wish as they definitely wouldn't have made it out of their rooms, but one she wished nonetheless.
Stiles: He pulled himself shakily out of bed to follow them. His limbs feeling weak from disuse and the toll of sickness, but he managed to follow behind the pair as they left his room. As they walked out into the hallway, he shuddered at the sight of the emptiness of the place that seemed like an omen to him. Hospitals were generally fluttering with activity, but it just seemed quiet here. It was too quiet. He couldn't help but to feel like it was a sign of something dreadful to come.
Matt: Matt carefully opened the door leading to the stairs. It made a little sound, but he hoped that it was too soft to be heard by anyone but them. Carefully he tried to hold himself while he started walking down the stairs. "How many stairs again?" He whispered and allowed himself to turn around for a brief second, already regretting it as soon as he did it. For a short moment he felt dizzy, but he took a few deep breaths before he started walking again.
Allison: Allison glanced at Matt, watched as he balanced precariously on the steps that would lead them towards the floor below them. Her expression changed into one of concern, her steps slowing as she watched Matt. He'd been sick before any of them, and odds were he was still dealing with the worst of the symptoms. Reaching out, Allison caught his elbow before he could make much headway. "Are you sure you don't want to wait here for us?" She asked quietly, lifting a hand to press the back of it against Matt's forehead. She couldn't tell if there was a difference between how he'd been the day before and now, and the gesture was wasted. "If you're feeling this rough going down, coming up is only going to be worse."
Matt: Matt nodded, shrugging his shoulders. "I'm just a little nervous, okay?" He started walking again, making sure that Stiles and Allison could stop him again. "I passed out yesterday, but that was after half a day of work." He was counting in his head, hoping that every next step would be the last one. "But I'm feeling better already, so I guess I'll make it." He sighed relieved when he felt his feet touching the second floor. "See, I'm fine..."
Stiles: Stiles had started to reach a hand out to help steady Matt back on his feet when the other male had already steadied himself. He'd opened his mouth to ask if Matt felt like making this trip down the stairs. But, before he could, Allison had already covered it and then Matt insisted that he was alright. "Just be sure to warn us if you're going to pass out. I can't make any guarantees that I can stop you from falling, but if things went wrong then I would at least cushion your fall," He commented, comment accompanied with sheepish laughter. It was a sad attempt to ease the tension though some truth held to it. He highly doubted that he would be able to stop Matt's fall, so he hoped that no passing out would occur.
Matt: After he had taken some time to gather himself back together, he place a hand on the door, carefully opening it. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting. Probably a calm floor, just like their floor had been. It seemed that he had been wrong about that. He recognized the uniforms and held his breath while he noticed how they were riding away another corpse. Another child that was killed by the flu. The feeling that something wasn't right started growing in his chest.
Stiles: He noticed the look that appeared on Matt's face and a sinking feeling began in his stomach. Stiles peered over the other male's shoulder and his eyes widened at the sight. It was yet another body being wheeled out of the hospital, another child was killed by this "flu". He feared from where they were standing and the general fluctuation of activity from a new death that they would surely be caught. "We need to go now," He said. He then grabbed Allison and Matt each by the arm and headed upstairs as quick as he possibly could.
