“James?...Daniel?” She didn’t know someone had come into the bookshop. She’d been far too busy with Nimue. She shuffled behind a bookcase, looking around the corner. “Hello?”

“Cherry,” Norris voice cut through Cherry’s thoughts as she mindlessly set up a platter in the window for pick up. Her heart was still bleeding, but dinner rush had helped keep her from breaking down. She looked up at the sharp featured woman and saw her fork a thumb out to the front room. “You’ve got business,”
That was usually code for someone who was paying for reasons other than food. She couldn’t handle that right now. She didn’t want to be with anyone right now. She wanted to call Herc and figure out how she’d screwed up so badly. She took off her apron and slipped to the front of the house where she saw James and Daniel. They were standing there, James looking around at the crowd dubiously, and Daniel like the cat that smiled the canary. They were surprising her. She’d never been so happy to see her best friends. She rushed forward and nearly tackled James, the man she’d known the longest and was her usual shoulder to cry on.
“I messed up. I messed up so bad,” She said wetly into bookshop owner’s shoulder.
