Indie Game Spotlight: Lonesome Village ( @ogrepixel)
This week’s Indie Game Spotlight takes us to another cozy village. Lonesome Village is a puzzle-solving adventure with social simulation, where you’ll take on the role of Wes the Coyote to solve puzzles inside the enigmatic tower, and rescue villagers from Lonesome. Your interactions with them will help you discover the origin of all these mysterious events.
We chatted with Steve Durán, the founder and director of Ogre Pixel (an indie game dev studio from Mexico), and talked aesthetics, characters, and more. Read on!
Are there any games or movies that inspired Lonesome Village?
Yeah, definitely. Lonesome Village takes inspiration from Zelda dungeons, Silent Hill puzzles, and Animal Crossing.
What inspired the aesthetic of the game? What was the process like, of making that vision a reality?
It was a long process, actually! We wanted to create a game with simple but great graphics and with a cartoonish style that would work for the social simulation part of the game.
Who are some of the characters we can expect to meet
There’s Wes the Coyote, Herald the Frog King, and many more villagers, each represented as different animals.
What kinds of ways can someone interact with characters in the game?
First of all, many characters will need to be rescued. After that, at the Village, there will be characters with different interactions like items interchange, crafting, minigames, etc.
If you could have any character from another video game appear in Lonesome Village, who would it be?
Isabelle from Animal Crossing.
Lonesome Village is still in development, with plans for PC/Consoles releases to be revealed. In the meantime, there’s a tech demo available for everyone here, and you can stay up to date with their news here on their Tumblr.
