The MCR/Cabaret Connection...

highly inspired by an edit made by @/Arod_a_ on twt, but the long live tour is VERY cabaret. Not 1972 cabaret with liza minnelli and joel grey, but specifically the 1993/98 broadway revival with jane horrocks and alan cumming.

The way G has been hamming it up on stage is a dead ringer for how cumming plays the emcee, from a wildly fluctuating accent to a gleefully nihilistic outlook on the world. Cumming's emcee is trashy and vulgar and sexual and violent and that is such a clear inspiration for the way G conducts themselves, specifically the election and mama interlude, which both feel like they were pulled straight out of the kit kat club.

there's also been quite a few direct references to cabaret and wwii ("You can't see Berlin with the sun in your eyes" and "Paris is beautiful at night") as well as the fact that. um. G has brought up cabaret time and time again as their favorite movie/musical/whatever. enough to have miss sally bowles herself sing on the tbp. so.

i genuinely would not be surprised if towards the end of the tour G just . started singing 'money' or 'cabaret'. like sure girl. go ahead. live your dreams.
