I got a haircut today and the first thing my Granny said was "You'll have to take a selfie"

i was checking out biking/running trails in my town and the map that was made by the municipal government to highlight the various routes also points out every tim hortons in the city lmao nothing has ever been so canadian

Let's Talk About Boys: Drabble

Her house felt like it was a million miles away as Hazel ran back home, but she eventually reached her front porch, tears still clouding her eyes. She threw open the door and tossed her bag to the side before running upstairs. 

"Hi honey, how was- Hazel?" she could hear her mother asking her from the bottom of the stairs before showing concern. The last thing she wanted to do at this point was have a 'girls' talk' with Melosia. Hazel ignored her and ran into her room before slamming the door behind her.

She flopped face first onto her bed and clutched her pillow, crying into it. Hazel was completely embarrassed. She had run her fat mouth and told Joseph the one thing she had been able to hold out on for for so long. Sometimes it felt like she couldn't do anything right no matter how hard she tried, and it was so incredibly frustrating.

Her sobs quieted down to sniffles as soon as she heard a knock at the door.

"Hazel, baby? Is everything okay?" asked a concerned Melosia from the other side of the door.

"I'm fine!" she yelled back.

"Do you want to ta-"

"No! Go away!"

Hazel's face dropped back into the pillow and she whimpered, waiting until she heard footsteps leading away from the door. When she was sure she was alone, she laid on her side and curled up, clutching the pillow to her chest.

Her head turned to look across the room when she heard scratching, and she sighed when she realized it was just Rico in his cage. Hazel got up and took him out before gently setting him next to her in bed. 

"You probably want to know why I'm crying." she started, wiping her cheek. Rico, of course, didn't respond due to the fact he was a ferret, but it was comforting in her own way to know someone could listen without judging her. "Well, let me just clear this up. I'm stupid. You might have already known that, but now it's really true."

Rico crawled forward and burrowed himself in the sheets by her head. "I told Joseph I liked him, Rico. Cod, I feel like such an idiot." Hazel went ahead and told him what had happened at lunch and the conversation they had after school. "I was so angry and confused." she said before letting out another small sob, the waterworks starting again. "So I just kept talking and talking and then I accidentally said I liked him. And he just looked so...shocked. I ruined everything. And to make matters worse, I'm doing what I always said I wouldn't do. I'm crying over a dumb boy. Does that make me the dumb girl now?"

Rico's head popped up from the covers at the sound of her crying. He started sniffing around her face, but she was paying no attention. "I know he doesn't like me back. Why would he? I just wish I could be less awkward and less weird and more like other girls. It's just not fair." Rico started licking her face and Hazel groaned. 

"You're not helping, Rico!" She picked him up and wiped her cheek, sitting upright in her bed before setting him in her lap. "What do you think I should do?" He looked back before laying in her lap to sleep. Hazel rolled her eyes and muttered a 'thanks a lot' before setting him beside her to continue sleeping.

She sat for a while thinking before deciding to just join Rico. Maybe when she woke up, it would turn out to all be a humiliating nightmare. If not, Hazel knew she would have to think of a new game plan. She just hoped it would end in she and Joseph still being friends.

started thinking about college and now i can't get back to sleep. at least i know i'm capable of getting up at this time. but i'm not capable of remembering why i chose an EPQ and then didn't do anything for it apart from read the book.
