Daily excerpt from chapter 37 of Underline the Blue:

‘Are there things that made you feel a bit disconnected from your folks sometimes?’ Janusz asked. ‘Yeah,’ Nate said. ‘They just…knew who I was supposed to be. And I didn’t feel like I was who I was supposed to be. I thought they were right to think that way, though. And then today it was just- What if they weren’t? Even if they were doing their best?’ ‘That’s just it,’ Janusz said, shrugging, reaching out and stroking his other hand through Nate’s hair. ‘That’s the struggle. Sometimes we meet malicious dickheads, and feeling hurt by their actions makes more sense. Sometimes we just need our parents, or friends, to do something different for us, and we don’t know what it is, and they don’t know any different anyway, so hurt still happens.’ Nate stared at nothing for a while, thinking that over.

Posting a little snippet more of the Kat and Nate fic (possible title: Hunger. The blood.) because I’m actually making words!

In front of the convenience-store-which-is-no-longer-a-cafe, the neon light of the closed sign in the window bathes his face in blue, settling into the gaunt hollows of his cheeks.

“When did this happen?” he asks, and she wonders the same about the change in his face.

“We’ll find something else, Nate. It's okay.”

“I dragged you all the way out here. Not much of a special evening, I’m afraid,” he says with an apologetic half smile.

“We’re out together, that’s special enough.” She steps closer and slips her hand into his.

“Of course you’re right, my Katherine,” he says and his smile warms into something more genuine. “But my company alone won’t feed you, and you must be starving by now.”

So must you, she thinks as he kisses her forehead, but she will not say that aloud. As she has not said that aloud for weeks and weeks.

I think that Rowan texts Nate whenever he finishes his homework... just because he has problems with procrastinating and Nate knows this!!

Like mentioned in game, Nate makes SURE those close to him do well academically. This goes very much for his boyfriend. So, Rowan sends a text if he's finished an essay or all of his work for specific classes!! It makes himself feel more accomplished, gives Nate assurance that he's doing his work, and sometimes Nate even tells him he's doing a good job (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠)

The only time Rowan holds back is if it's way later than Nate wants him staying up... then he can hold off on telling Nate until he sees him again. (Sometimes he doesn't check the time, sends a text, and gets a text later saying he shouldn't have stayed up so late and it was against the lights out policy ahisdjks)

Initially, Nate didn't understand telling Ro that he did a good job/giving a small affirmation after the text because well.. Rowan SHOULD be doing his work. That's an expectation, not an achievement. But as he gets closer to Ro and gets let into his struggles with fluctuating motivation and mental health, he begins to understand a lot better. He realizes that even a small affirmation can give his boyfriend more motivation to get his work done (and actually on time)! So, though not often, Nate tries to tell Rowan that he's doing well <⁠(⁠￣⁠︶⁠￣⁠)⁠>

Nate’s arc has been beautifully done and I for one and excited to see where season 3 goes but yes ripping the believe sign hurt me personally and I will be suing for damages

Nate: It’s the first day of 2022 and I already had four people yell at me for serving them alcohol

Nate: Alcohol that they ordered themselves

Nate: So your day better be going better than mine

I keep having this vision of Lenora finally figuring out that Nate’s been in love with her for yeeeaaaars and then flashing back to all the times someone called her dense. It’ll have to be a pretty long flashback sequence 😆 Also, Nate, that was very sweet of you to switch glasses with Lenora, but couldn’t you have, I don’t know, knocked it over and gotten a fresh glass? Anyways! Thank you thank you thank you I loves it all!!!

Poor Nate, he switched them at the last second. He realized it was stronger than normal immediately, but thought he could handle it without making a fuss that he had saved her. 

Obviously that didn’t quite work out... or at least not how he expected.
