Lily, aka Headtilt McGee, is getting handfed special porridge that Dixie absolutely cannot eat because it's got chicken broth and meds in it, and she is real Big Mad that I won't let her partake of the delicious (poison) elixir

Dixie had her physical -- her blood work came back all in the normal range, and the vet says she looks great for (nearly) 12!
Old school copy paste portraits for the girlies. Decided Nin should be nothing but a knight
If you know your dogs and are capable of monitoring them, I highly recommend giving them a plastic egg hunt with treats or kibble. So much fun 🐣
~Lazy camp days~
This was the first year camping since Lily passed. I brought a little sachet of her ashes, so Nin could be spread in her happy place.
Forest ranger was making the rounds; we had a bear in camp again, and this one wasn't scaring easy. We're about 50/50 for whether they're active in the campgrounds on any given year. Usually it's young ones, and they mostly stick to the berry bushes and the path by the water pump. It's fine as long as you store your food properly.
Mid spiel the ranger goes 🤨😀😃 How do you have a cat here?? Can I pet it? 🥺❤️
Turns out we only packed jalapeno cheddar hotdogs, (whoops). Luckily, I had trade partners in the group campers we've ran into the last three years. Swapped them a couple bougie hotdogs for plain so that Dixie could have her traditional dog.
The big group also had children with them this year, and Dixie loves the littles. Every time we passed their site for a hike or they passed ours for water, the kids were all over her. The toddler was especially fun, he'd fall over and biff it mid story, then pop straight back up and just keep right on talking. First thing he told me-- I'm Henry! I like moths and roly polies.
Me too kid, me too. We're gonna be friends.
Bonus: new toys for the trip, because traveling with animals is a lot like traveling with kids. Jiminy's were little catnip ketchup and mustards.
Little baby puppy Lily
We're saying goodbye to Lily on a really good weekend. It makes letting her go that little bit harder, just another twist of the dagger of doubt, but mostly? I feel lucky. As much as you ever can, we got this right.
Lily's celebration of life cake 🌼🧡🌼
