Annabelle says: go write three sentences on your current writing project.
Heya Rawr :) I've got a couple of writing related questions if you're alright with that
1) When you write the mafia au fic, how long do you generally make the chapters? I have a multi chapter wip and I'm trying to figure out approximately how many words per chapter I should do
2) How do you figure out a character's "inner voice"? Every time I read one of your fics it's very clear whose pov it's from and that's something I struggle with
Hope you have a good day
Hey, bud.
1. The age old question for most fic writers. I aim for about 6k as a maximum. However, the real answer is it's "as long as it needs to be". A chapter is about a phase of a story; an act, an exchange, a scene or a thread that needs to be developed. A chapter break is a good tool to move in time, to a different location and a different perspective. I'd wield it as a narrative choice rather than a fixed length you have to adhere to.
2. I used to write floating PoV or "omniscient narrator", and I shifted to writing from character pov to focus more on thoughts and feelings, and give readers something to wonder about. It's more grounding, I feel. I try and watch their mannerisms, listen to them talk, and think carefully about what in the world they would notice. Like, Ghost is mega observant, so he would notice your habits and probably focus on details others would miss; Johnny is fast paced and energetic, and he cares an awful lot about what people think of him, so he's going to think off in tangents, etc.
I spent a lot of my life shaping myself into the person different people needed from me, so I use that... talent? to try and mimic them as closely as possible. When writing dialogue, I talk to myself.
My Nikolai voice is appalling, frankly. My partner gives me the side eye.
Hear ye ! Hear ye !
Chapter 1 of my Plague Tale fanfiction "Redemption" in DONE.
The title is "The child of miracles" and it is currently 30 pages long and 8.2k words. And has probably drained all of my vital forces.
But it's here, and "currently" 8.2K words because I still haven't re-readed it. It should take me one week more, to be sure everything is "okay" and be fully satisfied with the result. (or at least something close to it ^^:)
Thanks for your patience if you ever waited for this ^^ Just remember I'm a very slow writer because English isn't my native language and I work a lot to give you the best version of my texts !
ME RIGHT NOW ->
so looks like i'll be posting the pussy stacking fic with joel and tess soon! š
I think I'm gonna deem myself as simply incapable of not inserting my minor ships into a fic
how's the chapter coming along?? any hinnts? š
still trucking away! lots to be written tho :/
as for hints, hmmm.
it's called 'Come to New York'
there's going to be a post-exam party with a lot of drama-rama and questionable decision-making
the result of whatever Jughead did or didn't hear back in the diner cellar will come to light and it's š¬
Two more weeks of college and then I can have hobbies again I am SO excited
Why is it on the days that I have the most free time to write, I just end up staring at the computer screen for hours, not able to type a single word? I can't seem to find a working writing schedule ugh
Perhaps you are trying too hard to force it? I find that happens to me often when I say "wow I have lots of time to write today, let me sit down" and man is it frustrating! Sometimes even if it's not the most ideal time you have to grab that whisper of an idea in your head and just GOOOOO.
I wish I had a helpful response for you though, for real. I have so many stories I'm worried about my brain's structural integrity under the ton of plot bunnies but at the same time have a hard time coaxing them out when I want!
