When my republican family asks if I have plans March 17th:
So I live in Ohio and no one fucking knows if the primary is on for tomorrow or not. There's a ton of conflicting information. Some say it's been postponed due to coronavirus. Some say the judge denied the request for postponement. Others say the Governor is ignoring the judge. Its INSANE! The primary is TOMORROW!!! Its already past 10pm here and no one knows of the polls are going to be open. I'm going to my polling place either way but tons of people have gotten emails and automated phone calls saying it's been postponed til June.
THIS IS NOT GOOD!! This could severely impact the election numbers for the primary and deny tons of people the ability/chance to vote!! At this rate it should be postponed on the fact that no one knows what's going on. Or allow people to send in a mail I'm ballot until a certain time if they couldn't get to the polls.
This is all so fucked up.

Ohio Democratic Party on 2020 Primary
“There is a lot of misinformation out there about the status of our primary election, and unfortunately, some of it is coming from official channels.
As Ohio Democrats, we want to protect Ohioans’ safety — and the right to vote. Both can be done.
➡️FACT: When Dr. Amy Acton made clear that there was great health risk to voters and poll workers through in-person voting, we supported Gov. DeWine's recommendation to close polling places on Tuesday, postponing the #OhioPrimary.
➡️FACT: There has been no resolution about how the #OhioPrimary will be concluded — on what day, in what way ... or even if those who did not have a chance to vote on March 17 will get to cast a ballot at all. That's why we’ve gone to court.
➡️FACT: The main goal of our suit is to ensure the #OhioPrimary continues. Some are suggesting that because March 17 is Election Day under state law, those who couldn't vote on Tuesday should not get to vote; i.e., the primary is over. That's unfair.
➡️FACT: Contrary to some reporting, our lawsuit has nothing to do with opposing Gov. DeWine's decision to close polling places and postpone the #OhioPrimary. We have been communicating with DeWine's office throughout — and they understand why we're taking this legal action.
➡️FACT: Ohio does not have a party-run primary. Our primary elections are administered by Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose. However, our primary election dates are set by state law. LaRose cannot simply move the #OhioPrimary date.
➡️FACT: A proposal to conduct statewide in-person voting on June 2 creates enormous risk and uncertainty. Will it be safe by then? No one can be sure. That's one of the reasons we're asking to conduct the #OhioPrimary mainly by vote-by-mail.
➡️FACT: Our #OhioPrimary plan would give voters several weeks to request and cast their ballots by mail — with accommodations and other options, including secured curbside drop-off locations — and wrap up the election by April 23.
➡️FACT: We are committed to working in a bipartisan way to get this done. We've been talking with Gov. DeWine's office, and yesterday he said, "We are open to discussion" about conducting the #OhioPrimary primarily by vote-by-mail.
➡️FACT: Conducting a mainly vote-by-mail #OhioPrimary does not require "transforming Ohio's election system." Ohio already offers no-excuse absentee voting, and the state has mass-mailed absentee ballot applications. Other states, like Oregon, use a VBM system exclusively.
➡️FACT: We are NEUTRAL in the presidential primary. We are advocating for an expansion of vote-by-mail for the #OhioPrimary because it's the right thing to do, not because it helps or hurts any candidate. No presidential campaign is involved with our legal action.
➡️FACT: We want as many voters as possible to cast their ballots in the #OhioPrimary. That's why we have a Voter Protection Team ready to answer your questions. Call our Voter Protection Hotline at 1-833-DEM-VOTE (833-336-8683) for assistance.”

SUMMARY:
On Monday, March 16th, Governor Mike DeWine asked the court to delay the primary scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th to June 2nd. The judge denied the request, so Governor DeWine had Health Director Dr. Amy Acton close the polls, which she is legally able to do. However, only a vote from the General Assembly or a court order can actually change the date of an election, and neither of these things have happened, which means the primary has not officially been rescheduled for June 2nd. If no action is taken the primary has basically already happened, despite no polling places opening on Tuesday. The Ohio Democratic Party has filed a suit asking the court to reschedule the election so that Ohioans can vote. They are also advocating to conduct this election mainly by mail due to the continuing health risks of COVID-19.
