As pointed out by data journalist Harry Enten, Tuesday's Illinois primary bolstered an ongoing 2026 trend. More Democrats than Republicans have turned out to vote in primaries overall. That includes three red states (including Texas), one purple state, and blue Illinois.
Illinois Democrats nominated Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton to run for US Senate. She was the most progressive of the three major candidates and is an ally of Gov. J.B. Pritzker – a staunch opponent of Trump.
Be sure to vote in your state's Democratic primary this year. Even if most of the major races are uncontested, your ballot serves as a vote of no confidence in the MAGA Republican régime. It's more than just symbolism because enthusiasm is contagious and we'd like to spread as much of that enthusiasm around as possible. If we make Trump look like a loser then it's more likely that he will end up as one.
