Got Some 'Canes Ova Here! Woooooh-jomo and the Giant Pear
Wow. I am sitting here with notes and lists and after watching that Giants v Pats game tonight, I am as clear as ever in one thing: I am very happy NOT to be the coaching staff in the next 48 hours.
Before I get to the cuts, allow me to make a few brief comments on tonight's game:
As I said in my pre-game post... Adewale Ojomo has been growing on my since pre-season game 1. He is DEFINITELY a pure Miami Hurricane - aggressive, self-assured... reminds me of back in the day when I was a 'Cane and Miami was winning titles. This kid has heart and plays to win. While on paper he may not have had as many recorded tackles, he was all over the place where he needed to be tonight, and he did have 1 recorded sack to add onto last week. This kid is pushing someone else off the block. In my eyes, Ojomo is the player of the pre-season for the Giants.
The Running Back situation is more confusing than ever. Ware dressed, but didn't play. Brown and Scott both came to make the team. I would say Brown took it this week, the way Scott took it last week. Toss up, because Brown clearly brought it this week.
The Offensive Line, uh, how shall I say this... they stank. Stank. Uh, yea. They just STANK. I don't see any depth there and it's a problem. Nobody protected the passer or blocked well tonight. We won't win games with this protection. Sorry to be harsh, but it's true. I'll come back to this.*
We have too many good options at DL/DT and LB. We are going to have to cut some people we really like. Oh*, and I said we would come back to the Offensive Line. I wouldn't be surprised if the Giants organization spends time combing the waiver wires in the next 2 days to shop a solid guy from the Defense, for a solid guy who can come to the Offensive Line. Question is - who's out there?
Those undrafted FAs we spoke about last time? Well, I think they may only be able to make the practice squad. While I am not yet sold on Jernigan, I do think he did enough tonight to make the team by a hair. As for the rest of the Wide Receivers? Where was Hixon. The fact that he didn't play has me concerned for him - solid team guy, I haven't seen enough from him to think he is a lock. Hakeem did what he needed to do and got out - great to see him back! Love that guy! Cruz did his thing (ha ha, as I wrote that, someone on 'Modern Family' in the other room said, 'she's going salsa dancing'). Randle had a few mistakes tonight (must have been the Skittles he took to bed with him last night - private joke), but did what he needed to - he's going to be really solid as a 3rd receiver. Barden also brought it again this week, leading in receiving yard for 2 weeks in a row! He's in. Good for him!
Weatherford and Tynes dynamic duo. Tynes will go down in history as money in every Pats game.
Other: Nice to see JWill back. Another aggressive South Florida guy. Broha had a great game too (kills me how many options we have at DL/DT). Someone will have to get waived when Canty comes off PUP. Gonna be hard for Beckhum to stay on. I wish I knew how bad some of the injuries are (Austin, Boley). It would make life a lot easier in the next part of this post.
Final comment: I am such a girl. I hate having to cut some of these kids! Some of them totally deserve to play. I wish them well, and as I thought about after Hard Knocks tonight when Dan Campbell (former Giants TE, for those who don't know) was chatting with Les Brown after he was cut: you hope that each guy who does end up being cut, understands that they have a HUGE opportunity in life ahead of them just for the fact that they made it to where they did! They played in NFL pre-season games! How many people get to do that?!! With the right attitude, they can take that and fly in their life!
Okay, I am just going to spit this out. Here are my 53. I am feeling light on the Offense right now - but I just have to pick the better players as I see it:
QB: Manning, Carr (Perrilloux to PS)
OL: Snee, Boothe ('The Giant Pear'), Beatty, Locklear, Bass, Diehl, Petrus, Brewer (mind you, Petrus and Brewer who played horribly in pre-season, but I have no other choice; I thought he was awful, but will place McCants on the PS for development)
RB: Bradshaw, Wilson, Ware, and... ugh... tonight am taking Brown (Scott on the PS or traded - I could really be wrong here, but something in my head is telling me to pick Brown)
FB: Hynoski
WR: Nicks, Cruz, Barden , Randle, Jer-Jer-ugh... Jernigan, Hixon (Douglas, DePalma and Stanbeck up for 2 PS spots in my opinion; my gut tells me they could possibly do something surprising here; Stanbeck unfortunately made a good sized mistake on Special Teams tonight, but I still like the guy)
TE: Bennett, Pascoe, Robinson (nice to see rookie play tonight)
ST: Weatherford, Tynes, DeOssie
DT/DE: Joseph, Osi, Tuck, JPP, Bernard, Ojomo, Hendricks, Tracy, Broha (note that with this really tough selection, we have to cut Austin, Thomas, and I do think Kuhn makes the PS also; Shaun Rogers onto IR)
LB: Rivers, Blackburn, Herzlich, JWilliams, Kiwi, Paysinger, Boley, Greg Jones
S: Rolle, Philips, Will Hill, Stevie Brown (until Sash returns from his suspension, and then we will see) NOTE: Got some 'Canes ova here! Well, there are 2, but Will Hill went to school in Florida so I am vetting him in because he seems like he should have been a Hurricane too!
CB: Webster, Amukamara, Hosley, Coe, Thomas (Thomas return is a question and could weight heavily on this grouping; assuming he does not get put on IR, Tryon to PS)
Clearly, there are still some areas where some moves could be made and some elements are hard to measure based on what we see (injuries for one). These unknowns could certainly effect some of the positional outcome, but the list is close, and this is the team that will now need to focus on what really counts: beating Dallas!
Build the bridge. ALL IN!
